The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Same here! I used to use it often for painting model kits years ago, before it was discontinued. But since it's like liquid gold these days, it's reserved only for projects such as this. :delta:

Luckily a single coat is all that was needed for the belt tool prop. I did prime the popgun first, which allowed the paint to flow on smoothly and evenly. After it had thoroughly dried I gave it a very thin wash of clear matt acrylic with a small amount of black added to help highlight the surface details and seal the coat of BB, then drybrushed a very tiny amount of metallic paint in a couple of places where it would be likely to lose a little paint through wear and handling, and done! After that I just attached an ALICE clip to it, which makes it easy to add or remove from my web belt. :D

Heeeeey, why single ME out as most likely to make a "It doesn't do anything! That's the beauty of it!" comment?
:p

I'm one of those who do like in-universe explanations for things, though - Obviously the Aliens changed appearance because the suits needed to be more mobile, or something else was changed because the new FX guys wanted to put their stamp on the series, or because MOICHANDISING!
The REAL purpose of the popguns is "To look cool".

In-universe, though...
I'd lean towards the medkit idea, were it not for the identical designs of the belt tools and SG batteries.
That factor alone leads me more towards it being some form of battery / multicharger in itself.
Kinda like the thing I have for my iPhone that I can plug any USB device into to charge it when there's no outlet available.

Which leads to an interesting point - How well would the Colonial Marines have done if they WERE dropped into Vietnam?
Up against an enemy who don't need to charge their weapons overnight before use? ;)

Man, I'd love to show it off but unfortunately I took it back to the states last summer and it's there with my 'nades & other kit. It'll be with me at Dragon Con this summer though...

Actually, the fewer suspicious-looking items I bring back and forth across the Pacific with me the better these days. I brought my armor with me back to Japan last summer to work on for next D-Con, and sure enough the TSA dudes just had to open the box and check out that "suspicious-looking fiberglass stuff" inside... I found a couple of cracks in it that weren't there before too, bless their hearts! :|

A thought just hit me this morning: what if the "belt tools" are the sonic electronic ball breakers Hudson was bragging about? It wouldn't really explain their function, but it would be nice to have a screen-used name for them!
