The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey guys,

Just discovered my local surplus store has shut down and i need to get some pouches for mine and lizs kits and some boots for liz. Can any one recomend a good online supplyer for surplus kit? Perferably uk based for ease of shipping!

I've bought from the Cobatton Combat Collection many times. You have to email them to make sure they have what they say they do, but they'll send pics if you ask and you can pic the exact one you want.
If you get a chance go and have a look around, it's a military vehicle museum but they don't repaint or clean the vehicles so they look authentic :)

My first port of call is always the top of the food chain - Field Textiles Ltd.
http://www.fieldtextiles.co.uk/
He is THE government disposal agent. Your local Army Surplus store buys from him.

The dedicated non-bulk, retail websites are:

http://www.the-outdoor.co.uk/ for Grade 1 kit, or
http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/ for Grade 2.

If you don't see what you want, give them a call. They're dead helpful.
If you're local enough you can also visit in person. Sign in, wander around the warehouse and pick your own order.

I reckon lots more high-street surplus stores will be closing down in the next two years. :(

best place is at a fair such as the war and peace show, there are quite a few going on every weekend, they are listed normally in 'Gunmart', other than that it depends what you are after, different dealers deal with different periods, and there is alway the bay of evil.
SoF are sons of the devil!!! dont go there!

Not the biggest fan of SoF prices, mighty steep, but they get their WW1 kit from a much better source in US so I can begrudgingly accept using them. Every now-and-again. Haven't used their other stuff, just know they have some

Milweb aren't a dealer, they're just a listing website. Questionable reliability and old ads are of no use, of course.

As far as SOF, I have had plenty of good dealings with them. The mailorder side isn't so good, which is why I contact Paul over there directly to buy stuff, especially if buying in bulk. SOF is mostly useful if you need fairly decent quality stuff in bulk. Prices can be a touch too heavy for individual buyers. I normally reserve personal purchases for smaller things at shows.

By contrast, I've found SoF to be the epitome of money-grabbing douchebags.
I've used their mail order numerous times in the past and have sworn off them for life.
They either do not know the difference between Original and Repro or deliberatley try and fob the latter off as the former, while always charging well over the going rate.
I've sent wrong items back with most of my orders, one in particular three times and they *still* couldn't send me the correct one - I wanted a pair of green US Army issue handkerchiefs and instead got sent, in order; a blue RAF pistol ammo pouch, a can opener and an M14 cleaning kit!!

At shows, SoF are even worse and talk absolute crap about what they're selling. Most of their WW2 kit they will try and fob off as Airborne, even if everyone got issued it. Even their repro stuff falls apart, sometimes within hours (as found at a W&P show a couple years ago).

If you want period original/repro stuff, Epic Militaria are cheaper, faster (never had a delivery take more than 24 hours, even ordered at 4:30pm the previous day), accurate and higher quality.

As an alternative to 'surplus' pouches- the Bulle range of MOLLE pouches in OD are brand new, tough and very well priced: a double P90 pouch is £8. This is what I'm using for the pouches on my USCM belt order.

www.flecktarn.co.uk are the place to get them- delivery is spot on and they even send you a picture via e-mail of what they packed in your parcel as it comes to you.

+1 for flecktarn. Family run business and top notch in terms of availability, service, delivery and kit reliability. I've used Bulle stuff for years now and it's every bit as hard wearing as it's issue counterpart

It's weird, with all my dealings with SOF I've never had a problem, but have met others who just had a real nightmare in their orders.

I have had good dealings with a newer company, Epic Militaria, their prices seem competitive and service was good - just be aware, not sure if the same for modern, but they sold the WWII sleeve rank insignia INDIVIDUALLY - handy I guess though, as if you damage one, you don't need to pay for a whole pair.
