The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Just wondering...can the same type of sights be added to the Spulse?

Charlie...for my spulse rifle I'm planning on putting some hash marks to show the number of kills I have...but nothing beyond that.

I've never built a spulse, so I don't know how the shroud is set up on that. With the Matrix PR, it is 3 pieces for the sight rail; the two big shroud halves, and then a the small center rail. Because of that setup, it was super easy to drill the holes and install the sights. If it were solid, then I imagine it would be a bit harder to get the rear sight installed. The front will still be a small hole drilled and just stuck in.

One awesome thing (I hope) is that the paint is a flat matte. So, scuff marks are showing fairly easy, it is hard worn at the corners a bit from me just flipping it over and around and moving. The silver undercoats are showing through nicely.

Thanks Retro! The only problem I have seen so far is that the MATRIX MADE IN CHINA label is still very faintly visible underneath the paint. I thought I sanded it down, but I guess I should have done more. Luckily it very hard to see, and that particular piece can be removed separate from the rest so I can always repaint that when it warms up again.

Here is a pic of the completed rifle, outside in daylight:

And I don't recall mentioning, but I redid the feed ramp as well:

For the rear mount I used:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/453004 ... pack-of-12

I got that pack since it came with the nuts and I had enough for screwups.

For the front:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/929048 ... inum-matte

I did that mainly because it was short. I didn't want to try to cut the threads if I didn't have too. In retrospect, the first type would have been fine. I just didn't know ahead of time. For the front sight I also used a 10-32 nut; both types of swivels will thread that.

Thanks man. Since I will be waiting for a while for the bulk of the costume to arrive, I've decided to take on a little side project. Since I'm kind of a techy, and pseudo-engineer, and largely thanks to Moosh's awesome screen grabs, I'm going to build a bypass kit. :)

Added my graffiti:

I did it mostly freehand, in Sharpie. I need to hit it with a matte clear coat to knock off the glare, but I like. The D3 is supposed to be the rack number for the gun (also my initials!) and Kitten is self-explanatory. :) I added my serial number just as way to make sure to differentiate my pulse from another.

Ordered a bunch of parts yesterday. Mostly stuff for the bypass kit. As before I'm not trying to exactly copy but built my own take on it. I'm using a target first aid for the base. I painted it today, we will see how it takes it. It's semi flexible but the so is the paint. And the paint is supposed to bond to plastic so I'm hopeful. Also ordered a full metal WE 1911, blued, for a sidearm. They are awesome airsoft pistols, extremely realistic. Almost too realistic lol.

Hey Charlie, I forgot to ask....where did you get the inspiration for the arsenal marking on the PR?

When I was in the Navy, we had gun racks. Each slot was labeled A1, A2, etc. the gun for the slot had an identical label on it, so you knew where to store it. I was on the drill team so we had a lot of rifles.

Will put up pics of the painted and unpainted pouch tomorrow.

Great work on the pulse . You really got rid of the plastic look that the air soft pulse tends to have . Love the mandalorian armor by the way . That's my next project . Just finished my bucket and I'm about to do the armor . Can't wait to see your marine progress . Keep up the great work !

Here is the original bag I am planning on using. At Target, they had a deal where if you buy like $5 worth of first aid stuff (bandages, cloth tape, what have you) you got a free kit to put it in.

Image

It's about 6" by 9". It's a semi-rigid foam; bit like stiffen craft foam but a lot tougher.

Image

It originally had a nylon liner with some mesh pockets. All that got ripped out. I used a seam ripper and an exacto knife. Not terribly hard.

Image

The edges curve in to give some depth, but the "flat" part is 5.5"x8". I'm hoping to get some 5x8" clipboards and use as a base for mounting the various equipment.I could bond using gorilla glue, but I will probably use binding post screws as well to secure it.

I painted the outside using the same Rustoleum Dark Forest Green that I used on the Pulse Rifle. I am really happy at how it came out. No cracking, bonded well to the foam and the cloth parts.

Image

I am debating about shooting the inside as well to make it all a uniform colour. But I also like the idea of a Marine just grabbing a first aid kit, hitting it with some paint, and making his own "custom" bypass kit. Which is pretty much exactly what I am doing. lol.

Well, I started by measuring and cutting the lexan plates. I used my dremel and got the rough shapes I needed (basically 5"x8"). I had wanted to use a clipboard but just couldn't find one the right size. Oh well..

Image

I test a very rough test fit.

Image

Once that was done I started drilling holes for mounting. For the most part, I used 1/4" binding post screws. I didn't trust glue or epoxy to hold anything in place.

Image

Image

I opened up the voltmeter and the blackberry to get access to the inside. Then I used the female end of the binding post in those components. The male end will be used to hold them in place to the lexan.

I also put in mounting points to hold the lexan to the first aid kit.

Image

Image

I used craft foam to make spacing for the voltmeter and the circuit card.

Image

To keep all the leads from being tangled, I incorporated a junction box design to kit. I just didn't like how the leads came out of a bag in the screen shots.

Image

Image

Image

After that...well I sorta stopped taking pictures. There was a lot more drilling, test fits, etc etc. But I did get the finished product!

Image

I put the nametapes on mainly because I had some spare. It's not movie font, but I didn't have spares of those.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Not an exact match, and there are some more details I want to add, but overall I like the look.
