I loved the late Jerry Goldsmith's score for
Alien even though the soundtrack was not as exactly appears in the movie, being chopped-around by Ridley (IMHO the right choice, as the movie music appears to fit the scenes better than that planned). It's haunting, and in the movie not too intrusive - two tracks for some reason even ended up in
Aliens.
James Horner's score for
Aliens is one of my favourites of all time, and an amazing job especially considering the pressures he was under (as shown in the bonus features on the DVD/Blu Ray). It has been known to appear in numerous trailers, (first time I heard it used that way was strangely enough for the
Predator trailer, before the franchises were linked), and an unused portion from the ending track even appeared in
Die Hard's climax.
The other two soundracks were unfortunately a bit 'meh' for me, though the Goldenthall soundtrack worked for
Alien 3, it just didn't grab me like the others.
So who else has just relaxed, feet up, reading a book, with the CD on? OR is that a dumbass question??
