The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Some minor work tonight

Added what I call a thingy, not sure on its proper name but I found a few images on the net so I added it
Image

Added the metal coat paint to the engine part and took a toothbrush and buffed it to reveal the metal look paint
Image

Same with the front gun
Image

And the same to the main gun
Image

A quick pic of the lights on,this was pre gun detailing

And a quick walk around vid

Absolutely beautiful. Nice work on the lighting too.

I like the detail you've done on the tiles for the miniatures too - makes me want to find the two packs I have somewhere.

Wow. How many hours do you have into this build?

Amazing looking!

Not many hours too be honest, the initial kit is pretty much good to make, I was just bing picky on certain parts. Been on it for 4 weeks, 2 hours a night maybe,

Last bit of actual modelling has been done, made the grilles, painted and glued on, some minor wear thing to do with smokes and then to work on the marines paintwork.

The very fine mesh cut
Image

And folded
Image

All the bits were cut, folded and primed
Image

And painted matt black
Image

And glued in position to cover the engines.

That's all for now until I start on the marines

Time to do some work again, these tiles take ages to do so with 98 cast, humbrol metal coat gun metal paint we have this
Image

Now I expect ill need more so the next idea I had was to paint an egg to decide if I was going to use it.
The standard eggs
Image

And painted and epoxy glue
Image

Couldn't resist a peek, also to see if I will continue and do the others I want
Image

Decided I like the look, the tiles will all sit level once glued down, for now its simply time to lay things out to get a vision of how I want the battle to look.....as I'm limited by the pose the figures come in I feel I have it spot on. Now I want another 3 rows of tiles at the front to extend the length
Image

At the front I need another 2 rows, so in total I need around 50 more tiles. Took the first battle scene from the film as an idea, the alien ran over and marines battling there way past the aliens
Image
Image
Image

Will have more eggs on the back, some closed up when I modify one and mold it
Image

This little fella has a base green coat
Image

So some more tiles will space it out a bit

Nothin major, snows holding me back for more resin and a tin of paint for the tiles, I can't work on a size for the base until I have those done...... So I can't even start laying tiles yet. Seems then it will be egg painting, soldier painting and some highlighting on the xenos. So that's the future plan of action so today I took mr green soldier and made him his armour.

Before
Image

And after an hour or so of hand brushed work
Image
Image

Happy with how he came out, 7 more to paint now and 1 swarm marine still seeking out the set

Plans change ...... weeks have past since the last update and another project has been in the works at the same time holding me off from casting the 150 more tiles i need. The more time goes on the more im not keen on the tile idea but i still want a battle scene even tho the apc is the main showcase.

So after being in the local aquatics store looking for inspiration and possibilities i stumbled over two items which got me thinking. Of course the first major advantage to what im thinking is its all fitting the models scale, it looks like what it supposed to be and it cuts down on hours of scratch building, painting, modelling and it fits the theme perfectly.

Out the window goes the floor tile idea and in comes another idea.........apc on the surface of lv426 with a hint of a marine battle. So the current revised layout which i feel is working better, ok not truely faithfull to the movie with this idea but unsure to go for this idea in its current pictured layout.

Still undecided on leaving the battle idea to one side and concentrating on the apc only but the poor old marines are posed in something that is only battle related.

So your opinions welcome........ Keep it based on the apc only, or have an alien fight to one side, some pics

I actually really like the second setup, it suits the preset poses really well.

Shame to not use the tiles, they look Really nice, maybe just have a marine/aliens diorama minus APC to get some use out of them.

Also, insanely good work on the APC, i've been doing miniatures for years and the work with electronics and functional components always impresses me. That's already a great kit, have wanted one before, but with the work you've done on it it's sodding fabulous.

I think this is inspired. The rocks give the whole thing a more dynamic feel and I like the idea of a wave of Xenos coming over the hill at the Marines. Great job!

What are your thoughts on using both?

The colony flooring had to start somewhere so maybe utilize some tiles at the front to show the ramp into a building so we know the marines are 'falling back to the compound' as the aliens swarm over the rock.

Thought about it, but its currently 550 square in dimensioñs. To do the ramp id also want to incorporpoate some hadleys hope and the airlock door. Too much scratch building

It looks amazing! I've done miniature modelling with Warhammer 40k, and this is way beyond my attempts at customization. I loved the work on the tiles, but I would agree the outdoor scene looks better and shows off the APC more. Pity the eggs can't be used in the scene.
