The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I was dead set against all these variants (check a few pages back), until I realized these are eggs harvested from the Space Jockey ship by the WY guys, not leftovers from the film. It's a hell of a lot easier for me now to accept these ugly critters. I actually kind of like the idea of the Space Jockey carrying a range of "weaponized" xenos. In fact it might even explain why the alien in Alien looked different from the ones in Aliens: Kane simply chose a different row of eggs than Pa Jorden 8)

Also we have no clue what WY was doing with all the eggs during the last 17 weeks. all the tests and shit.

That's a different developer you're thinking of, my friend ;)

Exactly! This is specifically what spawned the Spitter variant, for example.

One thing I'd like to know about; is the Wii U version being worked on and if so, will it come out at the same time as the others in Feb, as we've heard nothing bar the initial press release?

Maybe that's the reason behind extending the release date Steve?
It would be good fun to have to run a bypass using the Wii U, welding a door too :)

I wonder who will be the first to make a motion tracker shell to encase the remote :D

I gotta think carefully about that one, Chris... Looking at that new art, I'm not sure now what may have changed about it. I'm pretty sure I can say this much about it without spoiling anything important, though: Of the new xeno types created for the game, this one was my favorite for a couple of reasons. For one thing, its kamikaze self-destruct ability added an extra level of frantic tension to the multiplayer that I felt was in keeping with that whole, "holy hell, these ANIMALS are kicking our asses, what the hell is going on?!?" feeling from the movie.

Also, the explanation I was given on where/why/how the Boiler comes about was pretty rad, I thought. Again, this is the part I'm not sure how much I should say about so I'm gonna err on the side of caution... but this was one of the things that originally convinced me that, okay... Gearbox is gonna have to use some creative license in some parts to keep the game from getting boring, but I see now that they really are committed to staying as true to the canon as possible even with the new stuff. Assuming the Boiler's backstory hasn't changed, I think most of us will approve... although I will admit I did like its prototype art better. It was REALLY creepy ;)

I've been avoiding all the videos/writeup, partly because I knew more new Aliens were inevitable and necessary for the game - and I knew it might upset Abe.

Last week I couldn't avoid seeing them and ... I was a bit perturbed for a moment, but talking to the Gearbox guys smoothed my feathers. :)

One thing I am curious about being a PC gamer. Since the PC version has no "Collectors edition" will they release the collector's edition stuff such as drake, hudson, apone, and hicks multiplayer skins in a DLC or something after release?

Do you guys know if there are any differences in the Collectors Edition if you order from Gamestop vs. Amazon?

It appears that the Amazon pre-order comes with a S.H.A.R.P. Rifle, which fires explosive tip harpoon like "sticks".

Image

Quote:
Pre-order and get "The S.H.A.R.P. Rifle"
Customers who pre-order Aliens: Colonial Marines will receive "The S.H.A.R.P. Rifle" free. As referenced by Hudson in Aliens™ the prototype sonic-harpoon artillery remote projectile (S.H.A.R.P.) rifle fires time-delayed, explosive-tipped darts that embed themselves into enemies or terrain. This offer applies to all existing pre-orders. Amazon reserves the right to change or terminate this promotion at any time.

Now, that was listed in the description for the PC version of the game, and NOT the uber collectors edition for Xbox/PS3, so...

well hell. Just Xbob 360 just got the RROD. (actually got the ring over a month ago, but the good news is a "black friday" sale was getting extra trade in credit at gamestop even on broken systems, that they KNOW are broken. (The red ring only cost $25).

Moral of the story is I got $75 toward my pre-order collectors edition A:CM* ( a "good" xbox would have pulled $100). Planned on trying to show up in my armor for dicsount, but eh...ill take this too. Nice to have that in my back pocket for a machine I got 5 years out of and still got a consolation prize of epic proportions!

(*In PS3 form, which i do have and functions fine)

Is Gearbox saying that 400 Marines (and their equipment) can be transported on a single Conestoga class ship? I can see it with troops alone, but how many APC's and dropships would that number of grunts need to be effective? Just wondering about the math on this one...

I think it would be a max of 4 squads per ship just judging from space available on board
