The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey guys whats the best way to attach a welder to the belt? I cant quite see how its done in the movie to dark. And I cant find any good screen caps.

Anyone know what they did in the film to attach the welder to the belts? (Harry??) lol

And anyone know a way to easily do it with one of Mats replicas?

There's various ways, including use of clips and/or webbing.

Here's one way:

Some of the UKCM were watching the film closely and found Hicks's welder actually clips to his armour straps in some scenes. I reckoned it was a simple affair, like on retractable tape measures.See it in the scene where he seals the door in Medlab after the power cut.
Hudson's actually just hangs from his belt on a loop of string. See it when he and Vasquez are sweeping the colony and her light shines on his kit.

I think I can make out a toggle north of the welder.

Note also the USCM issued SaB* being utilized by Private Vasquez. I'm surprised none of our Smart Gunners have recreated this item...

That's it...a piece of cord? So they had to untie it when they needed to use it and the retie it after?

I may be wrong, but it looks conceivable to me that the "hicks way" has the protective shield folded down through the loop of the para-cord kind of 'sandwiching' it.

I bet the cord is a permanently tied loop around the belt, and when you stick the welder through that loop, then fold the lens down, it stays more or less in place and hangs there. When you need it, simply fold the lens straight again and slide it out the loop.

(or that's how it looks and makes sense to me based on that pic)

The best way is to have it clipped to your armour strap and then, when the situation demands, reach out of shot so that the Grip can hand it to you without it being seen on camera!

I don't have the money to hire a Grip to work with me at a con. :(
