Hey Marines,
Just thought I'd finally get around to showing my armour. This was constructed from a plastic known as sintra, attatched with straps and buckles from backpacks and then riveted together. I handpainted the armour and based the camo off one of Terry English's masterpieces, trying to make at least the paint job accurate. I know it ain't the best, but I like it for what it is. I usually have the jacket tucked into matching trousers, but it's too warm to be at that today. Also, I usually have ammo pouches on the belt, but I didn't feel like re-attatching them at the moment.
Well, I hope you guys can appreciate my attempt. I also have a modified M1 Helmet that I use to go with the costume. It isn't assembled at the moment, though.
Sorry if the reflection from the sun blocks out some out the paint.

Did you do any of the surface embossing/shaping? How long did it take to put together?

Russ - The only embossing/shaping I was able to do was on the chest plate. That big rectangular-like shape in the middle. I cut out a few pieces of cardboard in that shape, heated the sintra, placed the cardboard behind it and pushed really hard. Put I outlined all the other embossed areas with paint to make it look scratched and worn.

Hyde - The pepakura files. I printed them out, assembled them, layed them flat on the sintra, traced them out and cut them out with a exacto knife. Luckily, I didn't have to do any re-sizing, thanks to my tiny build. :p

fantastic i have the pep files and the modified ones for foam, however if the originals are fine for a slim build then im buggered resizing here we come

Print a section or two out on paper (I'd recommend the chest), tape it together and see how it fits, if its too small then I'll make up a bigger PDF for you

Nice job replicating the skull/knife design. I always loved how quirky and asymmetrical it was.

You can get some car door edging at automotive stores for really cheap that will help you finish off the neck area on the front and back plates.

Cool. I had to rework a set of shin guards once in a similar fashion. On my project I just measured the indent, and took a chisel to a piece of wood
to cut a similarly sized indent, heated the armor with a head gun and pressed it into the gap below.

I imagine if you ever wanted to beef up the detail level, you could always modify your idea and make cardboard templates and heat accordingly.

Are you going to add a rear plate to the lower back of the armor?

well done, it looks close to the movie props. I have just started researching for my build. Thinking of using a veitnam era steel pot helmet as a base, due to the fact that they are cheap.

Thanks devildog! Definatley use the Vietnam era pot. There are plenty of them around for decent prices! And that way, you aren't destroying any vintage WWII M1's!

I'm liking how these garage made armours are coming out beautiful and proving to me that home made armour don't necessarily have to come out looking like a bucket of shit, such as I've seen.

I found a better option than a steel pot helmet. the helmet offers no ballistic protection but is shaped like the old pot helmets will post pics under the title of "base for uscm m10 helmet"
