The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Works either way the USCM are more expendable than weyland-y's assets I suppose they do the dirty work the contractors come in after to mop up. Would expect a lot of former marines there. I expect the job market for veterans there is just as nil as it is now.

the last alien vs. predator game seems to imply to me that those troops were andies. That would be cheaper to produce I guess.

If anyone looked over the new Dark Horse comic that was released as promotional material for the new game (Sean was giving them out at D*Con), it shows Colonial Marines battling against some sort of WY armed forces.

Given that (and Sean's typical teasing) I'd say it's a safe bet that we'll see some manner of WY forces in the game.

Hey Spectre, is that comic worth picking up? I've seen it on the 'Bay for about $15. A friend grabbed me the Syd Mead print but did not get the comic.

Sean had a whole bunch of them he got from Gearbox he was handing out at D*Con. I'm not sure I'd pay $15 for it. It's very short. The main comic is only 12 pages, with 8 more pages of Alien: Colonial Marines related art. The story is short and simplistic, but the art is fantastic. It's really a personal call.

The Tech Manual has some good pictures of a few, such as the Scoped Rifle and the PIG. I just flipped through the aforementioned comic to see what weapons the WY goons used, they appear to be standard Pulse Rifles and Flamethrowers painted black, and a vest-less(!) smartgun.

Also in the Tech Manual in one of the Marine Interview panels there is a section where a former Marine Officer describes how his troops were used to break a strike on behalf of the company which then posted record profits and how he subsequently resigned in disgust!

Now you could take that as supporting either side, "company muscle" or government forces sometimes "puppeted" for special interest groups. I personally lean towards believing they are "Government Forces" but that's just me.

WY is an umbrella corporation which owns many properties, including the USCM. I can't understand why a "WY vs USCM" photoshoot would make any sense.

i never thought the USCM as being actually a division of WY. i've always thought WY has a hand in everything; colonial administration, ICC, weapon contracts, etc. WY uses the marines when a situation calls for it, but if they really need their interests protected, they use their own commandos. (see Alien 3)

I always looked at it as the USCM got its equipment from W-Y but wasn't directly owned despite what it alludes to in the last AvP game. When situations could be handled above-board then they used the marines. But when it was closer to the idea of wet work they send in the Commandos you see in A3 and 2 of the 3 AvP games.

Does anyone have scans of the comic that was being handed out?

The A:CM comic clearly shows WY forces and USCM as enemies in that particular location. Looks to me like the USCM are responding to a distress call on a ship (where there's been a Xeno outbreak), and WY forces are there to deal with the problem with a "Zero Witness" initiative. Given the evidence we've seen, I think we can expect USCM and WY to be at least partial foes in the game.

I could scan it, but I'm not sure how the copy protection laws are about that sort of thing.

I always thought of WY as a mega-corp from Shadowrun. But in the "we have our hands in everything" sense you mention. The USCM in my mind was a government entity but I figured in some far flung future WY has enough pull with the government to say "hey you should sent the Marines here, because we have money and a majority vote in the Americas Congress" (or whatever).

Given their organization in the Tech Manual and the "still a force in readiness" I'd assume that the USCM is at the back and call of the leaders of the UA government and can go anywhere without a formal declaration for some time.

And Colonial seems to say that they have a free hand in dealing with many things out in the arms.

And I think I'm over thinking this.

Going back to the Technical Manual again there are transcripts of message exchanges which indicate that departments within the company are not above physically fighting one another if profits/prestige are at stake!

Yeah it's just a bit of extended universe fiction of my own, if the group likes it cool I could use it at drops etc. if not then I'll just stick on my CM stuff.
