The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Aye - I wouldn't totally dismiss the need for some level of professionalism and organisation.

We're not the Garrison, and never will be. Our membership is always going to be smaller, and the films are never gonna be as mainstream-popular as Star Wars.
We don't need the red-tape and bureaucracy inherent in a group the size of the 501st - But we DO need to ensure that we do a good job when we're at an event, and that we take care of business before we move on to the mayhem.
It's finding the balance that's the trick, and I think we've proved - Especially in 2012 so far, with the Drops we've had to date - that we're pretty much there.
We have a good reputation on the convention scene, and it's one that we HAVE worked extremely hard to get.

So let's keep up the good work, enjoy the rest of the year's Drops, and outbevvy Vito at D*Con.

Lol garrison was a very poorly choices word it seemed lol

Ideally I'm looking to sort out (personally) a squad of x6-7 marines all accurate camo (starting obviously with none accurate till can afford it) all grunts (can't afford a smart gunner rig yet) and possibly look to do the game release and if anyone is interested in promo work do that locally

That's very much personal and short term though, long term I'd like to come to drops meet and swap ideas and drinks with some of the ukcm, my main concern was not stepping on any toes and tarnishing any of the reputation of the ukcm or the group in general and hopefully being a more active part in helping organise a more notth west uk presence Down the line

Personally, I think your priorities should be reversed. Hit up a couple of drops and see what goes on before trying to start your own group. Who knows? You might actually like the way these guys do things!

Hell just by the banter alone I'm loving things lol, unfortunately I'm juggling about 12ish builds from batman, iron man, starship troopers back to here (this is becoming my labor of love lol)

So drops and trooping of any kind is out till next year now, no such thing as free time only borrowed

Speaking as a lightweight; I'm not looking forward to my first drop... ;) BUT at least I know I won't have to worry about my kit.

I think what Troon is saying is ... if you just want to be in charge of something then a small costuming group is a really poor choice of thing.

I'd be interested to know what you want that the UKCM doesn't offer. The Aliens costuming scene is pretty small in the UK. We're running at about 50 members, including 5 Xenomorphs and too many Predators, and have relationships with 20th Century Fox and Sega/Gearbox and we have a level of professionalism that seems to keep them happy - all without excess rules or elitism.

I don't want to sound like I'm recruiting here (because we don't do that, for better or worse), but ... try it - you might like it!

The rule with an iron fist thing was more me taking the Michael wouldn't be offering much to be honest just a few laughs and will most likely just be me and old friends I'm trying to get into the hobby with hopes of getting them interested in all piling In a car and doing a few drops

With the aspirations of display pieces im developing like those mentioned previously such as the 1/1 displays I'd love a forum for more people to enjoy them and view them as well so taking them to events is quite appealing similar to a friend who has built a 1/1 ig88 and droid he takes to star wars trooping events

Well, that answers the question in your original post - to start a group about Aliens costuming, you get a group of people together with Aliens costumes. You should do it.

However, I'm not going to be giving UKCM banners, contacts and official connection to the UKCM to someone who has never been to a drop and I'm not going to endow some regional leadership position inside the UKCM onto someone who I've never met. The UKCM is relaxed but we're more organised than that. Essentially - you're never going to get to create a "garrison" of the UKCM if you don't want anything to do with the rest of the group.

I'm sure this interpretation is a misunderstanding, but that is certainly how some of the posts here seemed to read.

If you want to get into this hobby, you're in the right place on AL. The UKCM doesn't have costume clearance (or even require a costume at all). And getting together, piling in a car and going to drops is what we do. And occasionally we get a good few people together at one drop... What is not to like?

No man tbh this thread has been exactly what I wanted light hearted and nobody making me feel bad for asking stupid questions lol, have the game promo at a local store (only gets me staff discount) so will see how that goes and then go from there and if grows maybe see if there's a way to contribute in a more official capacity under the flag after a good few personal drops obviously

Was more keen to see if there was an official process to go through

The star wars groups up here have me walking on eggshells with the structures upon structures, nice to hear not the case here by the sounds and hey aliens just as cult in my eyes...........well upto the second movie at least

Yes... and we were also kidding about the goat, the nun-thing, the cake, the five rolls of wallpaper, what you did at The Plaza, what you did last Summer, ice-cream, the tree and the weak lemon drink... but we were NOT joking about the beer ;)

You still seem to be under the impression that you need a costume to join the UKCM and/or attend drops. You really don't.

Heck, there's some of the UKCM who've been to loads of drops and have never been in a costume yet. :)

Just stay awhile, have a read/join in on these forums, attend a few drops(events, get togethers, etc.) and see how great the UKCM are. 8) :delta:

Wearing at least some clothing does help though, at least in certain situations!
