The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I have no problem with anyone making their own BDU's from our material. I just won't sell my patterns!!

I was kinda floored when he asked, lets be honest here, if I can buy it pre-made, I am NOT going to do it myself (insert lazy gene here)

Patterns?

Come on guys.

Sorry, I've been asked this question a lot lately.

People spend a lot of time developing these items, so if you are interested buy them or not.

Spat is kind enough to offer raw yardage.

If you are looking to save a few bucks by buying 3 yards and making it yourself,

I suggest cut open a pair of 501s and a bdu top, and start there.

Don't ask someone to hand over all their leg work.

Maybe you should be a little slower to criticize some for asking an honest question.

This is a quote from the "State of the Spatcave thread"
Spatman wrote:
So I announced this on Facebook earlier today (with a tease of the fabric), we've decided to offer raw yardage since soooooo many people have asked for it. We're also going to offer kits (raw material with the pattern for the BDU's), and completed sets. Pricing will be coming soon. Please be patient! I do appreciate how excited everyone is about this, but the barrage of e-mails, texts, calls, PM's, Facebook messages and Facebook chats asking about pricing and other details about the BDU's has been insane. I'll assume a few snail mail notes and telegrams are forthcoming, and that the puffs of smoke on the horizon are questions about pricing as well.. Once I have more details, I'll post them! I promise not to keep it a secret!!

So as you can see it was simply regarding something that Spat himself already stated.

Thanks Matt! I was trying to be diplomatic! :)

I find the easiest way in this situation is to discourage via pricing, I have been asked for similar things in another field of creative endeavour so if a set of BDU's is $200 then the patterns are $1000+.

It's a commerical version of the old Give a Man a Fish/Teach A Man To Fish proverb. Sell a man a set of BDU's he dresses as a Marine sell a man a Pattern to make BDU's and suddenly he's a competitor!

As has already been said I think you're being very generous selling raw yardage!

I have no problem purchasing a set of complete BDU's, but I would not have brought it up had it not been mentiond before.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Nobody! We do plan to offer raw material with the sewing pattern printed on it at some point in the future. That's what I was talking about. But we don't plan to sell just the pattern by itself.

It will take some time for us to digitize the pattern and get the instructions ready, so don't expect that for a while!

Ok, I'll be starting a For Sale thread in the PX later today.

We'll only be able to do 3 sets in time for DragonCon, so keep that in mind.

But Anthony (Eisbaer66) came up with the idea of a Charity Auction at DragonCon, so we'll be donating a full set of BDU's for the auction and all the money will go to the Drew Martin Make-A-Wish fund! The suit will be made to your specs after DragonCon and shipped to you and we will pick up the shipping.

We'll have more details on this later!

Ok, Anthony and I have talked it over and we will NOT be doing an auction for a set of BDU's at DragonCon.

Instead, it will be a raffle. $5 for a ticket, winner will be drawn at the USCM Raffle (hopefully you won't mind us jumping in on that), and winner gets a full set of BDU's in your size, a helmet cover, bandanna and mic pouch.

AND... you don't need to be present to win, AND you can won't even have to be at DragonCon to enter!! We'll get more details later!
