The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I agree with mantroom 100 % like Spielberg and Lucas actually the phrase I want to use was in the promethuis movie ... ( a king has his rein then he dies , it's inevitable ). You had a good run time to call it a day .

When Ridley made Alien in 1979 he had the life cycle of the alien already planned (and Filmed) these scenes were cut in the final version , but it was widely know ... Egg , Facehugger, Chestburster , Alien , . The Alien would then grab the crew , and impregnate the crew and they would turn in to a egg , thus starting the cycle again (these scenes would be put back in the Directors cut a few years ago) Scott also said in interviews in 1979 that the alien would take the characteristics of the host , if it came out of a dog the it would be like a dog ..etc

When Cameron came along to make Aliens , he stated in interviews he did not like Scott's life cycle of the Alien , so he wrote the Queen alien in to the script, and since then Every Director has altered the Life cycle / and Look of the Alien since ,

The Alien queen in the movies has been done to death, 3 Alien movies plus the AVP movie .. glad we did not have a queen in this movie .

Ridley has been talking about doing a film about the Space Jockey's who are they and where they came from for at least 10 years , this is the start the story

What Ridley has done in this movie has Gone back to some of the ideas he had in Alien but were ignored / Altered by those that came after him ....

Or how's about that AVP-R where the adult warrior aliens impregnates pregnant women with multiple aliens. I saw that and was shaking my head. "Are you freaking kidding me?!"

As you say: Ridley had a good idea of the Alien's lifecycle in ALIEN. It would seem that in Prometheus he wanted to make like the other directors and changed it's lifecycle for the point of changing. Except he didn't want to make it clear if it was to be another creature, a proto-alien or the Alien itself so he left his bets hedged (to allow for the 0-2 sequels to Prometheus, that he may or may not be asked to make, to still vaguely line up in the Alien universe).

Different directors have different ideas (and the same director can change their mind), but my own opinion is that Ridley has forgotten the elegance of the Alien (both in appearance and life-cycle). If he had enough respect for his previous work (and the fans?) he would have taken care to make this very definitely a different creature rather than mess with the Alien by linking it (even tentatively) with an ugly thing whose lifecycle was apparently dictated by how the available footage edited together rather than being thought through.

And I don't mean that it's linked genetically, by some distant heredity or even by bioengineering prototype and redesign "in universe" - that may or may not have been the intention - but in the realm of fictional monsters it is related too closely to the Alien by it's actual characteristics.

Reviewers and pundits say that some fans hated it because there wasn't an Alien in it - I have reservations about Prometheus because there WAS.

But that's my own opinion - I've always had more reverence for the Alien in my mind than I do for Ridley Scott or any of the other directors.

Pug50: I agree with this. I was quite happy with Prometheus until that final reveal. The whole thing had a wonderfully Lovecraftian feel that I was enjoying, and it seemed kind of refreshing to show other monstrosities instead of the Alien. Then that little black nerd popped out of the Engineer and it all got kind of strange...
Has anyone else noticed the similarities in the first act of Prometheus to the first act of Alien Vs. Predator? Archaeological dig, gathering of the crew, speech by Weyland, outlandish claims by scientists about alien influence on Earth, etc. If it is a coincidence then it's a pretty funny one.

I, personally, enjoyed it. I agree there were a lot of things that could have/should have been better about it; but as a whole I thought it was a good movie.

So according to that MTV email interview, the original Prometheus script was chock full of classic Xenomorphs. I'm curious how that would have played out, but I still feel the film is better without them (and by that I mean I wish that last stupid shot wasn't in the film). I enjoyed seeing the world of Alien opened up a bit, but until this Jesus Engineer thing is resolved I don't know if I can say the film is really part of Alien continuity for me. Just my two cents of course.

I agree with Nocternus - a director's cut may help improve it. Kingdom of Heaven was rather disjointed and confusing in places thanks to the editorial cuts. BUT a lot more of it made sense, or certain characters appearances/exits made sense and didn't leave you wondering. I reckon this could happen with a directors cut. At least, I HOPE it will

I kind of enjoyed it & at times the story seemed to not flow & it felt like they had run out of time , when they edited it .
The effects & perfomances was good , but it could have been so much better , I didn't find myself on the edge of my seat at any time ( unlike the original movies ) you could almost see what was going to happen before it did . The only bit that got my heart rate up was when Shaw was in the operating machine having the " thing" removed from her .

Im guessing that there may have been scenes of Weyland when he was younger & yet we only saw him as an old man . why else employee a young actor & make him up ?

Thinking after & watching Alien again , I think its been made to link back to the originals in a very loose way & leaves you with more questions than answers .

i know my biggest question what is the relation to the proto-alien and the xenomorph mural. especially when Holloway says he better not touch the green amber rock next to it.

LOLS Ridley Scott has gone George Lucas. Best line ever, bro!

I don't know why, but I just hated it. I mean when I first watched the Alien's franchise, I had to sit in the living room in the middle of the afternoon with the lights on it freaked me out so much. I mean just the build up of what is to come next - it was a true thriller.

This just fell flat. Most of the acting was horrible, it was poorly written, and the plot holes are to numerous to count. I walked out of the theater thinking, "Wow, the trailers were more suspenseful than the film." I am very sad. I think I am going to go cry into my Class Cs now.....

FX Movie channel has the cowriter on it right now. Originally it was an Aliens prequel but they hired this guy to change it to a film all its own because they wanted to attract a new audience. He even said he was super excited that they were doing a prequel to Alien, but was scared when they asked him to make it a stand alone movie.

Such a shame. The first contact between The Company and our not so friendly xeno is the story I would have loved to have seen told. I just got the giggles with Prometheus when it went all creationist... And then I got bored. Bummer.
