The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm a little bit excited, I've just been invited to the UK cast & crew screening of Prometheus next Tuesday (the 29th) as a guest of the lovely Chrissie Overs who was one of the sculptors/model makers (and also worked on Aliens of course). I'm seeing it again on Thursday at a preview screening as a guest of Propstore of London.

Woo hoo! :)

Don't worry, I won't post any spoilers!

Harry

Hey all, I just got home from the cast & crew screening. I can't log in to the AL on my iPhone at the moment or I would have posted sooner. Don't worry though I'm not going to post any spoilers; although Kane does come to a gory end. Oh wait, wrong film!

All I really want to say is that Prometheus is... well, pretty awesome. Actually it's VERY awesome! When I met up with Chrissie, who invited me before the screening she and her colleagues were very excited about seeing it and apparently there had been a lot of positive 'buzz' about the film among the crew too. When we got to the cinema and took our seats Chrissie did remark that there were a lot more people in the audience than at a lot of screenings she'd been to and the mood of the audience was a very excited one. As the house-lights wend down there was an enormous cheer and applause from the crowd.

As I said I'm not going to say anything about the film itself except that the 3D wasn't over-used if that makes sense, or rather it wasn't just used for the sake of it in that 'ooh watch out for the spear, it's coming at you!' kind of way. In fact I quickly forgot that the screening was in 3D after a while.

As the lights came up afterwards there was a huge round of applause and the atmosphere on leaving the cinema, and in the crowd outside as people said their goodbyes was one of even higher excitement than before and real pleasure upon seeing such an awesome movie.

One thing I'd suggest is definitely try to watch 'Alien' beforehand. You don't need to but it might be of benefit.

So that's it really, and I can't wait to see it again!

Harry

I actually wouldn't have expected a "Post-credits gag" with Prometheus, so thanks VERY much for that, Harry!

That's three good reviews I've heard so far... Getting VERY excited now for Prom Night on Friday!

Thanks for the "review", Harry. I've been looking a some very average scores today, so my expectations were lowered (which is a good thing, actually), but with you saying you enjoyed it a lot, I still have a good chance of thinking it's a great film.

I'll find out on Saturday morning. I'm seeing it a 11:00.

The problem Prometheus will inevitably suffer is that of many films that have been released in the last 15 or so years where a lot of people who see it will think they could do a better job either writing or directing it, or that the film doesn't match their very (very) specific expectations and personal ideas & theories.

For the most part there's an extremely good reason why those people aren't writing or directing films. ;)

Oh, one particular scene got a round of applause at the cast & crew screening last night. I won't say which one obviously as it would be a spoiler but once most of us have seen it I'm sure there'll be a spoilers-included discussion thread so I'll chime in again then.

Harry

I just look at the bad reviews ALIEN got back in 1979 and it makes me not worry at all about Prometheus. :-)

Wow, those are a funny read. It really does help to put things into perspective and reinforces why I rarely judge a movie by its critical reviews.

Just got back from watching it. I'd say it was flawed, but brilliant nonetheless.
