The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It's a little game from Verizon to win a trip to London, but there are some interesting little clues about the movie :)

Okay, that's the last trailer I'm going to watch before the film comes out. I'm loving these, but it's starting to get into some really juicy stuff that I bet I'd rather experience in the theatre first, not on YouTube.
(But thanks for posting it!)

saw a rumor yesterday that Prometheus 'might" get an R rating. Of course that is probably the hype machine...but here's to hoping!

I believe a Fox(?) exec has said they will not be cutting the film in any way, so the rating is up to those who decide.

This is what I think Ridley said. Cutting a film for a PG-13 rating to placate the wusses of the world is a good way to ruin a movie. Some movies are meant for adult audiences and people need to get over it.

We can only hope. As for Fox execs making the right decision, I direct your attention to all the sci-fi they have cancelled over the years

Phew! For years I've argued that Alien vs. Predator was crap from the get-go becuase you can't make a PG-13 sequel to two rated R franchises, so when people started talking about Prometheus being PG-13 it just seemed like a really bad sign.
Now of course an R rating cuts the studio's revenue, so folks have got to get out there and pack the theaters to show there is money to be made from adult SF/horror, especially if we want a Prometheus 2.

AvP was crap because they wasted the potential by changing the era it was set, and dealt badly with the characters. I think it was better than its 18 rated buddy AvP:R, but that's just me

I totally agree.

IMO the best AVP film would have been a faithful adaptation of Dark Horse's first four issue series (set on Ryushi). That story was set in the same erra as the Nostromo and had a fantastic premise. They borrowed a few ideas from it for the film, but setting it on Earth (in the present as you noted) was a terrible idea. I never even bothered with AvP:R.

Don't, it's awful.

Ryushi would have worked well, as you say. Ms Noguchi makes a great protagonist, lots of character change for the critics, lots of explosions and plenty of build-up and tension before the critters begin battling. Woulda been ace.

The thing is this movie, as with anything, wont please everyone. I'm sure Ridley and co have made the best movie he possibly can but there will be those who will not like the film and those who simply wont be able to accept anything except their own ideas of how the film (ie: Alien universe mythology) is meant to be.

This film could tip the Alien Universe clean on its head. Are we ready for this?

Agreed. I think there is a very good chance we will be give an origin story for the Xenos that *begins* with the Prometheus vessel making contact with the Space Jockey(s). Up until now the assumption has been that the Xenos are ancient and have been used as weapons by the SJ's (or possibly bio-engineered by them), and that they exist elsewhere in the galaxy besides LV-426.

Personally I'm ready to see what Ridley has brought to the table, especially since this seems to be something he is really passionate about.
