So tonight I'm digging through some older prop bins looking for some things to put up in the PX, and I come across this:





I had completely forgotten I still had this. Actually, I thought I had sold it off years ago. The details regarding its origins are a bit fuzzy, but I believe it is an original fiberglass pull from a screen-used shoulder lamp -- I seem to remember screen matching it to something, mark for mark. I recall having paid big bucks to get ahold of this back in the day, but the lamp head and elbow joint seem to have gone missing.

Anyone know anything about its origins or its maker? The handle appears to be resin (molded in black), and both halves of the box are fiberglass (painted brown bess with a light black speckle). Additional photos and details here:

I made that! It is cast from a real prop.

It must have been about ten years ago. It was part of a run of five (hence the silver marks inside). The bracket is not mine.

They were made as a favour for a friend. I'd be interested to know how you came by it. I certainly never got 'big bucks' for them.

I've owned this since sometime in 2006. I seem to recall paying $375 for it, but it was entirely complete. Aside from a Halcyon facehugger, this was my very first true Aliens prop -- and a pricey one for me at that time. I cannot remember who or where it came from, or whether it was state-side or not. Unfortunately I've had a hard-drive or two fail on me since then, and much of my old correspondences have been lost.

What I do know is that I treated it like it was screen-used (because it surely looked the part), and never used it with my USCM costume. Instead I bought another shoulder lamp later that year from Matt -- a black resin kit -- used it at DragonCon that September, and promptly smashed it into several pieces the following month during a Halloween costume contest. I now believe the elbow joint from your casting went on to replace my broken one.

I'm struggling with remembering what happened to the original head lamp unit, because it was wired and lit up with either C or D size batteries.

So then... judging from the four little silver marks inside the casings, mine is apparently number 4 out of 5 then, right?

Do you know whose original shoulder lamp this casting was pulled from?

That would be me. The lamp was given to me by John Gorman when I worked for him on the construction of Alien War London as a thank you gift for my work on the experience.

I have a quick lamp question: what are the dimensions of the box shown here? I'm looking to scratchbuild one and I realized I don't know how big to make it. To my eyes it looks to be 10cm by 16cm. Is that close?

Well... if I were to arrange a 'tour', it would actually become more of an archaeological dig.

As far as the lamp goes, I'll have to see what parts I still have for it and slowly cobble it back together. I'm pretty sure the original solid resin lamp head unit is still around.

Just signed on to this board after seeing this posting.
Firstoff, glad to be here. I've long neglected getting on here and hope to share some cool pics and info.

Anyway, I'll take a guess that this lamp may have been one of the two you sent me. Mine is secured to my TE armour but the other one you sent to me for Steve Dymszo may be this one. Steve has been selling items from his collection to pay back collectors for items he collected money for but has yet to deliver.
