The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

If they're refurbs, how come they have the same number as were actually made in total?

They have 1,000, HCG's limited edition was said to be 1,000.

I wouldn't take MIM seriously with the numbers.

Take the fact that the price increased to 1200.

I don't see many serious collectors rolling the dice with a new run from HCG, unless they

seriously addressed the droops.

I've done business with MiM for several years and have never know them to sell refurbished items, at least not without stating so in the product description. As I posted earlier, they do occasionally offer one-offs & limited pieces they've likely procured from aftermarket & outside sources. Especially many of the model kits they sell. I've personally purchased such items from them in the past. This does not lead me to believe HCG are doing another run of PRs, in any case.

That high price makes me believe these would be brand new PRs, though. If not, I feel certain they would've said so. Just my 2 yen's worth. :)

The way I read MiM's ad, it appears they are merely stating how many PRs in total are "out there" Worldwide and not how may MiM currently has in their stockpile (for all we know it could be 5 or 10). Unless there is some number of stock I've missed?

Oh and the ad itself is lifted word for word from HCG's PR ad (minus the red ordering portion), so they probably just lifted the 1000 pieces part too.

I don't believe that MiM has 1000 units (not even close  ), nor do I think it is a new run.

I'd say you're right on the money, Kevin. Fewer than 10 pieces is a pretty good guess.

MIM are not known for conscientious web content. They have a history of operating with a sort of ethical ambiguity.

I just acquired one of the Brown Bess Pulse Rifles and I'm very happy with the build. No droop on mine. The grenade launcher racks a little loose but that's fine.

Working on a display for it now using the original display with some additional pieces.

find a hex wrench that fits the two screws on the side of the GL pump and tighten them little by little until you get the ammount of play/and tightness you prefer.

Thanks! I had no idea it was adjustable. Saw the screws but thought they were just molded in detail.

I got a reply from MiM tonight.

My question ...

Hi! I seen the Aliens Hero Pulse Rifle "Olive Drab" Version. Is this
produced by Hollywood Collectible Group? Is it a new exclusive batch?

The answer ...

Thank You For Contacting us.

Yes it is. I have it in stock

Let Me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Since we are basically positive it is the HCG Pulse Rifle that MIM is reselling, you would probably get better and more definitive answers from customer service at HCG. The people I've spoken with there are truly helpful, regardless of anyone's bias regarding the infamous 'drooping barrel' issue that several customers had issue with...

Image

Oh, I'm sorry... that's a screen-used pulse rifle. But wait... it's got a droopy barrel too. Huh? :?

Nevermind. That's a discussion for another day.

Anyways, since HCG is already sold out of their pulse rifles, I see no reason why they would not help you seek out a reseller... specifically to find out if MIM are indeed carrying their pulse rifles, and if those numbers are part of the 'original' HCG batch or a 'new' additional HCG batch. I doubt they will tell you how many they sold to MIM for resale, but I don't see what it would hurt to ask.

As far as how many production runs or total number of guns produced, I'm with Kevin on this. My bet is that MIM is selling the remaining stock from HCG's original release. So if HCG did indeed succeed in producing their entire run (which does not always occur), that would make only 1000 in Brown Bess and only 250 in Olive Drab for a total of only 1250 -- or less.

The REAL question is... how many people out there gutted theirs like a deer and stripped the shrouds/fairings off?

I see no droop on the Thompson barrel, but the GL does slope down due to how it's fixed to the receiver/shroud/vent. I wouldn't have minded that with my HCG PR. :)

As shown in TechnoCop's pic, the HCG's had poor assembly quality, with the GL at varied angles and the Thompson barrel on a droop too.

Correct -- just the SPAS cage fitment to the shrouds is 'drooping' on the SU'd one -- but it has always bothered me. I ran into a similar issue when I was fitting my real steel SPAS 12 cage to a Tokyo Marui with a G&P M41-A kit -- so that particular area is a sticky point with me.

However, I didn't realize how large of a gap some of the HCG's had! I must have gotten lucky with my two. 8)

Looks pretty solid to me. I'm looking for gaps between the shroud and the barrel vent and not seeing any.

Is this the OD or the BB? I'm not sure ... This one is supposed to be the OD.

In the first two pics the main barrel looks like it's pointing upwards, rather than level or the old droop, so it'd be best to get a full length side on view to check if it's level with the line of the Thompson receiver.
