The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi guys,

its been a while but I thought I'd share my progress so far on this project of mine thats been in the wings for far too long. Its only 3 days in so lots to do but the likeness is coming through now. She'll be finished in silicone with real hair eyes etc. And later this year I hope to sculpt a full statue with her holding newt and the pulse rifle/flame thrower combo!....

Wow! excellent! I've seen a few Ripley busts/sculpts on various forums over the years, none of which have really truly captured her likeness but I will have to say that you really are on the right track with this! You're off to a great start. I'll be following your progress. Thanks for sharing. By displaying your efforts it's inevitable that folk will chip in with their own suggestions for tweaks/nips/tucks, all I'll say is keep doing what you're doing!! great stuff!

Whatever she's listening to, it must be riveting.

Seriously though, very impressive for only a few days work. 8)

Yeah, that's a great sculpt & likeness, even at this early stage. With work like that you must have a real art/sculpture background?! :like:

Thanks, yeah its in the blood really. My grandad was an artist. I went on to do art at a level, then a foundation course in art and design and then a 3 year special effects course. Now I'm a portrait sculptor and jobbing model/prop maker in film and tv. Worked at tussauds for a while too. I love it!

Heres another little update. I added the torso and smoothed her down a little. Still alot of details to take care of though:

Cheers, Steve

Yey BOOBS! ;)

Very nice work there.
Have you sculpted anyone else from the films?

I could never get the hang of sculpting, only looked good from one angle :(

I've sculpted Hicks and Hudson. Radion is using a copy of the Hicks for his figure build

This next update is about 6/7 days not including research and calculating the measurements. Hopefully I can have it wrapped up in another 6/7 days. Refining takes a while! But then the moulding and casting begins so I won't have a finished piece for a good 3 or 4 weeks yet I'd say...

Outstanding work, Steve! Can't wait to see the finished sculpt before you start the molding process. Btw, do you ever work in smaller scales, like 1:6 by any chance?

Cheers,
-Dru

Are you sure you sculpted that and you didn't just kidnap Sigourney Weaver and cover her in clay?

She's looking better in every picture, outstanding work.

You don't happen to do a Hudson in 1:6 do you? I've been after one for years, the HT generic sculpt looks more like Hicks than Mr Paxton...

That's exactly what I meant! Your Hicks looks great! I think there are more than a few guys who would be very interested in any other 1:6 Colonial Marine sculpts you've made, and whether any of them are available. 8)

The HT figures Hudson and Apone's portraits definitely need upgrading, and a better Ripley portrait would also be cool. A few of them have been done by various sculptors, but not nearly enough to fill the demand for these and the rest of the Marines & Sulaco crew.

Especially the grunts who didn't make the cut: Frost, Crowe, Wierzbowski, and Dietrich (who would need downsized armor) - Dropship Aircrew: Ferro & Spunkmeyer, and the others: Gorman, Bishop, Burke, and of course Newt.

I have about a dozen Hot Toys CMs & lots of extra kit, and eventually hope to build the entire Sulaco crew. Here's a pic of my WIP Hicks. The base sculpt is the Hot Toys VN "Stoner" SEAL with re-sculpted hair (not by me). BDUs were made by MAA in 2009. (Hope you don't mind me posting this in your thread!) :)

They are not DOLLS.... They are ACTION FIGURES!!! (What my wife had mistakenly called my action figure collection years ago. "You have a lot of dolls" she said) The ripley is looking great! You have a very amazing talent!

Thanks guys! Ha! Yeah they actually have a similar attitude at tussauds. You get berated if you call them statues - they're FIGURES don't you know.

Heres a couple more pictures. Very close now:

Hi Steve,

Thanks, I definitely figured as much with work like this. Must be great to have a job that's also a passion too!

Just caught up on the whole thread. Ripley still looks outstanding & it's great to see the sculpt evolving pic by pic. Keep posting! :like:

All the best.

John. :)
