The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

ADC summed up the programme rather well with this on the Alien Encounters: Superior Fan Power Since 1979 facebook page:

And yes, the people in costume were researchers on the programme who were sent out to find the outfits 2 hours before filming ... It would seem that Abe is the only real sci-fi icon who lives within 3 miles of BBC HQ. ;)

Unfortunately, for everyone 'outside' the UK we see this little message:

Currently BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only.

After ADC's comicbook adaptation (which is flippin' awesome by the way), I really need to see this video segment to believe it. I'm a little rusty on spoofing UK originating IPs, so could someone rip it and repost it for us 'outsiders'?

Oh yeah... and what Sci-Fi show is that 'biker-mom' character supposed to be from?

The whole segment with Abe and Fern Britton's views on Sci-Fi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3vKCqQvkGQ (3:26, 720p enabled)

I might need to make a shorter version for Abe with less Britton.

Abe was definitely stealing the show, and I think everyone was getting keen to that. It's amazing how quickly they dismissed the Sci-Fi topic to start talking about 'homework'. That biker mom must have had a really bleak childhood growing up.

Aside from Abe and Princess Leia, the rest of the Sci-Fi bunch was a motley looking crew that looked to be there only to make fun of sci-fi fans...

    - Jedi Luke wearing Yoda mask was absolutely terrifying
    - Spock looked a bit disheveled but well-feed
    - The "Aren't you a little tall to be a Jawa" guy
    - A plushie Dalek?
    - Your stereotypical Roswell alien in spacesuit
    - ...and finally, Vader with fleshy hands?!?

Seriously. WTF?!?

Thanks for posting that Gareth!

I actually found ADC's comicbook adaptation much more entertaining. 8)

TBH, I thought it worked out quite well - Abe being there emphasised the effect of the researchers in rubbish costumes and made it look like a deliberate attempt to make fun.

I wasn't 100% about taking part until I saw the VT of her on Room 101 - and calling Abe "Ant Man" helped invalidate her point even further.

Actually, the researchers did make quite an effort to get "proper costumers" there, contacting 10 groups including all the big ones. However, with such short notice they only got Abe.

Looking back, Abe should have attempted more mischief. However, the floor-manager woman was formidable and it was live. And, the female presenter was SERIOUSLY scared of Abe.

Through out the whole show I was waiting for Abe to slowly appear behind some one, hissing slowly.....

I'm convinced the words "Oooh" and "Ducky" are staples used by the fey man in the red shirt.

Hey, red shirt. Isn't he supposed to die? Was Abe feeling charitable that day?

Rick, love your sig pic – that gun!
