This is my first ever try with the pepakura and I thought to try the smooth cast 320 which I did not care for. After 24 hours the pieces are still somewhat soft and flexable and seem to be relaxing back into a partialy flat position. NEED HELP and any sugestions on how to fix or do I just need to start from scratch and use bond resin on the outside with fiberglass cloth on the inside???

Is there no way to hold it in it's final position while it cures?
I've never worked with this stuff so I don't know how feasible that is.

the files usually have supports made of paper to keep the shapes - ive no idea what smoothcast is, but the best way for pep files is poly resin. brush on a layer to the outside, allow it to dry and repeat 5 times - this will sturdy the paper bit by bit and when it comes to the sanding process you will be rubbing down the resin and not going through into the paper giving you loys to play with. when the layers are all done then work on the inside - a nice coat of resin on a section, then add the matting and resing over the matting. cut some matting in squares or rectangles and simply put it in position and then resin on top. it will be hard withing 2 hours and really solide after 12 hours

this is what you will get after 5 outer resin layers and the inside matted - harder than john holnes when dry



of course it will be solid and wont bend - so if it doesnt fit simply get a heat gun on it to soften the glass and bend it to the shape you need to fit the body - when its cooled it is hard again. just make care when doing the hard to access bits.... small bits of matting in intricate areas so you wont end up rubbing through into air pockets / unresined matting

this is as far as i took my pep build - mainly due to the uncomfyness at this stage, esp as i have back issues - i found the fibreglass to make a person too restrictive

I want to thank Who45 & 88reaper88 for emailing me the detailed files for the colonial marine armour that I could not find through an internet search. I hope my set will turn out as good as who45's.

korran kant also used the same files - he has a pep build on here as well which will be of some use - without his initial startup i wouldnt have attempted it myself, so well worth a look at his techniques too and decide the best route you will take on your build

Well I know its been three months since my first posting on the Armour. Had to take a break since I needed to start over from scratch. Started up again with the correct files and thought i'd post a few pics of my progress. Sorry the pics are not clear, camera battery low. Getting ready to put a coat of fiber glass resin on the front side and back, fingers crossed I will not go too heavy to warp the cardstock since I hade a challenge with the back piece which did not go together smooth.

Any suggestions on how many coats of resin or how heavy for the front side, and is just one layer of fiberglass on the inside strong enough?

What is everyone doing with the loose shoulder guards that are part of the front plate?
