I asked for some pics of the actual flamer, and said that depending on the kit it's 80% built from, I might actually know someone who could make him a decent cash offer - I mentioned a few of the inaccuracies of the various kits on the market and offered to help him ID exactly what he had on his hands...

I've experienced this attitude from conmen in the past, as a blustering attempt to draw attention away from their refusal to back up their claims simply by showing pics of what they're hawking.
Looks like the dude's a ripoff merchant after all - Or at the very least determined to keep up his claim that his flamer's cast from screen-used...
