The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

*pokes head round door*

Well,, I've not been around much (vocally) but I don't want to lose the link to the friends I've made here, so I thought I better explain myself in the hope of being able to get out of the lurking funk I've got myself into. To put it bluntly, things did not go well between attending DragonCon in 2008 until about this time last year. Started with a huge bill when the car went into for a service, only for it to fail MOT a month later. So, get a new car (borrow money) so I can get to work. A couple of moths later, work dries up at the studio, and so does pay, and begins a six month stretch of unemployment. Can't claim benefits, and stupidly I try to struggle through without involving family or Sarah. Eventually, a project comes in to the studio (game based on a TV show), so I think things are turning around. Not so. The publisher stiffs us after Christmas, and in January '10 the studio folds. Back on the jobseekers, but being open with Sarah about the situation and borrowing from parents (which isn't what you expect to do in your mid thirties).

Anyway, finally got myself a new job in July '10 (iphone game development). Pay is a little less, but at least it's constant. Problem is the studio is 90 miles from home. Sarah doesn't drive, and I'm not making us up sticks when she has the job that has kept us going. So I drive. A lot... Means a fair percentage of my wage goes on petrol, and every spare penny goes to digging myself out of the pit of debt I've got myself into. I now live for the weekends, when it's a chance to recharge and recuperate (and not drive). That said, weekends now are very much taken by wedding plans, as Sarah and I tie the knot next year. As much as I love all you guys, I love Sarah more, so wedding trumps everything ;)

I admit, it does get me down missing drops, but I know this situation will pass. Things are slowly improving. I will be back on the ready line as soon as I can.

Jon & Sarah

TL;DR - I'm an ass, miss you all, promise to post more, back to drops asap

Hey man good luck with the wedding planning! Me and my lady are doing the same and planning for next year.

I hope things pick up soon, or they suddenly discover a decent electric car!

Life's a bitch for interupting normal drop schedule, but we all know how it is. No worries, mate, and best of luck for everything. Give my best to Sarah!

Oh, here's a potential way to marry (ha ha) wedding and drops: how's about a honour guard of uniformed marines outside of church/city hall, mmh? With a PR arch for you two to walk under? No?

No worries then. ^_^

Could not agree more buddy. Were all still here and all family. But my plan for asking for your boxers if you left has gone out the window!!! ;)

Yeah, were all in it deep and it's challenging. But we roll with our hearts and learn knowledge with our minds.

Still need a game of AVP soon buddy!!!!

I was wondering what happened to you! Sorry things went bad with the job situation!
Good luck in the future, we'll be here when you get back to "normal."

Great to see you posting here again Jon, and send my love to Sarah too :D

The 'real world' does suck a bit but the AL will always be full of Aliens related goodness whenever you decide to poke your head around the door.

I would be great to see (you both) at a drop soon :)

I well understand job situations going bad. :x Completely understand your situation. Take care of yourself and Sarah, do what needs to be done.

And if you get a spare moment or three on the weekends, check in with us, see what's going on and post a wee bit! :delta:

Thanks all :)

Do feel a little silly posting stuff like this. I know that others have had just a tough a situation, if not worse. At the end of the day, I have Sarah and my health, good friends and family and a stable job (now). It's an uphill battle, but I can see light at the end :)

2012 should be a great year.
