The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Using sponge/paper towel/bog roll to dab on the paint solves that issue I find.

Nice trick, I might have to do a test of that before I do my armour and helmet stencil.

Be sure to not put loads of paint on, repeat the process if you have to. Its hard to do it the other way around and remove it!

I can't wait to see this all completed, it amazes me that all this pep armour started life as everyday card.

well after i was nicely emailed the file by korran - i gave into tempation and ive also started one - so far ive made the right shoulder and the front chest piece - im at the point where each item had had a couple of coats of resin to give them some structure, so next for me will be a thin matt around the joins, once done the heavy matt will go on - i doubt ill do a thread as the process is going to be very similar to this and korran deserves all the glory so far :)

so far im happy with how im going but ill be making everything bar the helmet which i have on order from another source :) - looking at thos leg sections im gonna be in for fun......so far on 1 shoulder and front chest piece owes me approx 12 hours........gonna be a long haul

Who45, post up some pics so we can see. It's not a quick process, and once it's all glassed you still have to sand it.

oh i know its long - so far i have paper built the right shoulder, 2 layers of resin to the outside to give it some sturdyness, ive only just tissue matted the inside of the shoulder piece to line all the folded, high and recessed areas, then on top of that goes the heavy duty matt which is currently drying (the thicker type to give it its better strengh) once all is set and hard i shall endevour to give a couple of bits a good sand, and fill any problematic areas..............altho im not expecting too many issues as i have used a thin matt resin first which has clinged to everything on the underside very nicely whilst alot of resin soaked thru it - have to admit my resins going off a little too fast for my liking lol. bye the time i put the thick layer of matt and poured the resin onto it and pushed it around by the time im in the last corner pushing the matt home the leftover resin in the cups going off, the resin i have is a 100mml to 2ml hardner.

stupidly i only started to picture mine from the chest armour build last night -

Sounds good. You might want to drop the hardener to 1ml, that should give you a bit more working time.

will drop the hardner for sure, some pics - not many: all i can say is when it comes to doing the trimming im glad i have a dremil :) - the nice thing about the resin i have tho is how nice it does go off, none of this tackyness, after 30 mins is dry and solid to handle

Looks very good so far. One thing to watch out for on the chest piece is that I found the indents for the clips in the sides were too small, and had to make them bigger.

No probs, just thought I'd give you a heads up. Also, I'm sure you noticed, the files for the leg and shoulder armour are both labeled the wrong way around.

interesting as i did something similar today - test fitted my shoulder and front plate after i dremeled the lips away and it sat on my torso perfectly (still need to sand the surface back yet tho).............love the mask removal, look like great scratches. mine fitted like a glove too

ps did you look at your cod piece and think like i did - not alot there to stop an alien going for the plums lol

what did you use for your base coat of green on top of the silver......a spray??? any specific colour as i dont fancy buying a load of tamiya olive drab spray cans and im airbrushless , and spray gun less too now :(

Quick update. Painting is coming along slowly but surely. The real pain is the wind that's stopped all spraying at the moment.

Who45, the only colour I have sprayed is the silver, the rest is hand painted.

I've started on my helmet, here's a few pics of my strike plate made out of foamex.

your comming along - i took the opposite for the helmet and a forum member is making mine for me, i figured there was too much involved in getting parts and easier to have someone make it that does very good reps. surprised you went with the foamex tho, as i would have used the pep template for the front piece of the m1.

have to say i found the rear back plate armour a bit of a pain to keep that curve when it came to resin strengh and glassing the inside, managed it tho and have kept the curve ;)

Really impressed by this. One thing though, your strike plate is too tall. Bring it down 1.5" or so.

Who45, I went with foamex because it's a lot quicker and easier to work with. The helmet pep is also not too great.

Nick, thanks very much. I tried bringing it down 1.5" but it looked too small.

Here are some pics with the current dimensions, could somebody please check their helmet and let me know how much I need to adjust.

Many thanks

Who45, have a look in the archives for the paint colours.

Base coat commonly used is Humbrol Acrylic spray 30 Dark Green

It's fake leather with a slight textured surface.

You're coming along fast mate.
