This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me.

So that being said I have got my spulse painted up.











I have added some weathering to it, more will be done but I dont like it...... I think it might be because all the black parts should be different shades of black, does anybody have any ideas on how to repaint the black parts so they are more like the original?

I reckon if you respray the black parts again, just leaving the ejection port silver, it will look great!

I can see where you are coming from nick I did like it plain, but for me, I have my helmet weathered, uni is weathered, and when I get my armor, it will be weathered, so I think that It being plain black, it would stand out like a sore thumb standing with the rest of my gear.

If you're airbrushing, try mixing a little silver in with the black.

Varying the amount of silver added will give various shades of black - gun metal looking.

My suggestion would be paint the handle grip and pump grip in satin black.

Spas cage, stock, vents in flat black.


Maybe the magazine tabs satin as well.

I personally would use Revell's gun metal on the metal gun parts (suprise!) and go with Noble on the satin black on the plastic parts. The revell paint has got a really authentic blued metal look when applied. I can't remember the number though unfortunatly but they only make one.

EPIC!

Games Workshop Satin "purity seal" spray varnish. Has a nice muted sheen to it and can be wet sanded once fully cured to a very smooth finish. Its what I used on my hero rifle shrouds. Id use it only on the shrouds though.

Most spray varnish will leave a slight satin sheen but one that ive used that really dries matte is "the army painter matt varnish" comes in a 440ml can.

That looks really good. What OD paint did you use and how did you do the weathering? Was it dry brushed?

Cheers Korran, I used krylon, olive spray for the body and the weathering is done by wet brushing the scratches onto the metal parts, I personally dont like the dry brushing technique for something like this.

I used other peoples pulse rifles for ideas on where to add the scratches.

Another thing to try on the black parts is rubbing a small amount of graphite powder on, gives a subtle metallic shean. Great paintjob already, though

Cheers for the info. I just starting to think about how I'm going to paint and weather my armour. It's still a long way off but just getting ideas.

Another thing you could try on the metal parts is just dusting it with some silver spray paint. You just need to covert up all the parts you dont want affected and then stand well back and lighty stray. This will give the metal parts a slight metalic look.

Good idea, cheers, once the graphite is rubbed on, will the clear varnish keep it on ok? or will the graphite have a different affect as the paint?

Updated picture

New pic with the graphite added to the black parts, expect the grips and areas that are not supposed to be there. Personally I think it adds a bit more realism to the look of the rifle that plain black paint cannot do.

I also painted the grip with black satin humbrol, and the handle but it has not cured correctly, and is slightly sticky...has anybody any ideas on how to get it back to normal? or if I repainted it again making sure I have shaken the paint well and mixed it up well, will it cover the stickiness?

The satin will dry properly over time, try not to hold it for a week, it's a bit like oil paints in that respect.

did you use any sort of sealant on the shrouds? i had a bunch of my paint rub off from shouldering my weapon at a con this weekend.
