The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I was a huge Tron (1982) fan. I really enjoyed the new Tron as did my two boys, 9 and 12.
However, I think it is odd that Tron 82 was kind of swept under the carpet.
It seems that Disney was almost embarrassed by the original. Why wasn't the first movie on TV or re-released on dvd?
The new movie had only the slightest recap at the beginning.
Anyone else feel this way?
The new one is very dark and serious.

I enjoyed the original and re-watched it just before I saw the new one- I really enjoyed the new one, but as you say, it touched on the original, then diverted. Major characters in the original became minor ones in the new- one particularly so.

Who looks like could be set up for a sequel?

The "rumor" is Disney pre-screened the DVD/BluRay release for a select audience and apparently the "young ones"
laughed at the "dated" graphics. So, Disney pushed a BluRay release back to first or second quarter 2011, probably
releasing it around the same time as Legacy on BR/DVD.

I actually saw it for a second time on Monday and enjoyed it more the second time. I picked up on a couple
lines of dialogue I missed the first time, and one curious sound effect. :)

I quite enjoyed the film over all. I'm hoping for a sequel!

Actually, Disney originally considered to have no sequels done. However, when the 90's came around, it seemed that plenty of those direct-to-video sequels started to pick up and come around.

This is what I was trying to say. Young people do not understand that this was ground breaking technology. They also do not understand that cool video games were at an arcade and computers were mostly dumb terminals. Touch screen was rocket science, voice recognition sounded like a "Speak and Spell"

True, true. I must be getting old... because I actually remember ALL the terms you used
in that paragraph. :) I remember when "arcade quality" graphics in gaming was the level to strive for.

I enjoyed it aesthetically, storywise it was mediocre. The film was probably a 6/7 out of 10, and I wouldn't buy it on DVD. felt like they were trying to cram a bit too much in.

Saw it again on Monday. Picked up on a couple pieces of dialogue I missed the first time which made a couple things make more sense.

I think I actually enjoyed it more the second time. Wore my contacts too and sat a couple rows of seats closer, so the 3D
effects were better. :)

The US release must be different to the UK release as I just saw it last night and saw references to the original Tron throughout the movie and the recap at the start perfectly fine, just enough to explain the situation without making the film too slow.

Tron 82 has not be "swept under the carpet" at all.

First I am one of the rare few that believes the more special effects you cram into a film the worse the film gets.
I really liked Tron Legacy but I have a few nitpicks.

I really disliked the portrayal of the Character Clu.
I understand the idea of it, but the complete computer generation of it
kind of annoyed me. This could of been easily fixed by hiring an
actor to play it, it didn't have to be a mirror image of Flynn.

I disliked that the character "Tron" got about 30 seconds of screen time.
The film is after all called "Tron Legacy." The way the film was portrayed
it should have been called "Flynn's Legacy." I know Bill Boxleitner is older now,
but that could have been fixed by Allan Bradley getting sucked into the Grid too.
I am sure they, the movie directors, did what they did so they could hire
the super ninja actor, whomever it was, to play it....Blah.....

I really love DAFT PUNK and their Cameo.
I really love the Character Zeus. I don't know if it was intentional or not
but that was a freaking awesome tribute to "Ziggy Stardust" if I ever saw
one. I liked the tanks, and light cycle parts.

I give it 8/10.

Might be worth someone on Admin changing the thread title to "Tron 2 - Some Spoilers" now for the benefit of those who haven't seen it yet!

According to the wee dude in HMV the original is being re-released when Legacy comes out (Was trying to pick up a copy for Bolty's Christmas coz he hadn't seen it)
Personally I really enjoyed it. But I am the sort of person that will simply sit down and watch a film purely to be entertained and not to pick it apart. Young Jeff Bridges was a little creepy looking but it was a brilliant effect :D But I look forward to seeing it again at some point :D

What's funny was seeing Jeff Bridges clean shaven for the interviews/movie premier and he looked like 20 years younger than he did in Legacy. :)

I hope if they do a sequel he's in it... clean shaven. ;)

I "think" what Joe was referring to was the film not being on DVD for
people to see before the new movie came out?

Best start saving.

Aesthetically I thought it was awesome, I think the scenes in the club were shoehorned in, however.
