The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi All perhaps just a quick question... The shoulder lamps... Were they pieced together especially for the film as with many other bits or were they an off the shelf unit of some kind...? I know there are rears available now but what's the score?

They were built from many different parts, including an alarm box for the main unit, a camera light, etc.

Edit:

Here's the details;

This is actually a pretty good question as the board does have this info, but it is a little hard to find.

The shoulder lamp body was made from a "Superswitch" intruder alarm box:

These are beyond rare on ebay.

The handle is from a Technisub La Spirotechnique diving lamp:

The lamp itself is a Reflecta video lighting lamp model 3002.

(Unfortuantely I can't find a pic online of it)

The arm that connects the lamp to the body has not been indentified yet.

Thanks for the edit there Steve.

IMHO, Matsuo's reproduction shoulder lamp is better. 8) :delta:

Guys, thanks for the responses... A very interesting and complex assembly... :-) you have to admire the imagination behind dreaming this stuff up.

There's loads of threads, but it's not easy to find the info, so here's what I think is correct:

Parts list:
1 - Kango 426 drill casing
2 - Matchbox Powertrack Transformer
3 - Hama Remote Release #39402
4 - Olympus T28 calculation panel 50mm (or T10)
5 - Jobo Minilight meter #6415
6 - Pump widget
7 - Casio SL-85 Calculator keyboard fascia

A pic detailing all the various bits (click for big version):

Indeed it was.

It's part of an aneroid sphygmomanometer.
