Anyone made or designed a bullpup pulsey before? I was thinking, obviously bullpups are still used in the Aliens universe (L85's in the armoury) so i decided to have a go at designing one. This sort of thing is probably beyond what i could make IRL but i think with some tweeks it could look pretty cool. All of you firearms experts will have to forgive me if i've made any mistakes but here it is.



Basically an SA80 with a shroud.

An interesting concept weapon! Sadly since it's assembled from photographic elements all taken at slightly different angles and scales this contributes to the "Frankensteins Monster" appearance.

You can build the something similar with all parts at the same scale and perspective at http://pimpmygun.doctornoob.com with the exception of the Pulse Rifle Shroud unless he's updated it since I last used it!

Yeah i thought that when i was making it. It is a bit twisted It's okay. It was just to give an outline of what i'm thinking about, my main reason for bringing up the subject was to see if anyone else had thought about it before and to see other peoples ideas.

I don't see why, except for the love of a pulsey, they would be using two standard issue bullpups - Which is a shame, I do love the pulse rifles.

The SMLE was considered outdated by the early 1900s, yet it saw us through two wars and is still a favoured sniper rifle today.... Ya never know!!

The SMLE is no longger a main battle rifle though. The 40 year old M16 design which saw it's genesis
around the time of the VietNam war is being replaced by the M4 derivitive. The M1 Garand, which General Patton said
was the greatest implement of war (In WWII) was replaced by the 1960s. The M14 is a derivative of the M1 design,
but is used as a tactical sniper/sharpshooter platform and not a main battle rifle.

I can't see the US military still using the M16 platform in another 50 years, much less 150 years.

Getting back to the subject though, if you want to build a bullpup PR design, knock yourself out! You may have to make some
design concessions though, such as stock length.

Well my thinking was more for UK issue. Maybe Australia and France too. Just nations that have already adopted the bullpub configuration that might carry it in to the future.

Dom, yeah that's what got me to thinking about bull pup pulseys in the first place although I heard it was an L85. I must have been mis informed, I'm not the biggest weaponologist.

Edit: and yeah it would look alot better with just a butt plate.

SA-80 was the project code, meaning something like "Small Arm of the 1980s".

Most people call it an SA-80 now, I think.


No, and in the film they're using Pulseys. But there must be a reason why they have old-fashioned shooters on board.

Maybe, like the Enfield, they're now considered specialist weapons, or something.

Ah right. Cheers Woody. I like the idea of the specialist weapons. After all, the Sulaco Is just a floating base. It needs to have everything aboard that the marines would need for any encounter or mission.

Too right. From what I recall during my training, it's called a "weapon, you moron".
Not a rifle, SA-80, L85, gun, shooter, piece, boom-stick, shooty-bang or anything like that.....

Even then, when I referred to it as my "weapon, you moron" as he instructed, the Corporal still had a go at me... I dunno, maybe I didn't pronounce it right.

I had a great moment regarding the SA-80.

I was carrying one during a weekend drop when someone from the UK Garrison tried to argue with me that my rifle was not screen accurate and I should not be using it. I told him it is and that even if it wasn't, we don't hold by strict SA rules as the UKG do. He retorted with a "it spoils the illusion, its not screen accurate, don't use it."

It was then that Trevor Steadman, who had been listening to our debate, leaned in from behind the UKG Screen Accuracy policeman and said "Actually, it is mate."

PWNED! HAHA HA HAHAHA!

The guy gave me dirty looks for the rest of the weekend.

It'd look pretty good with a butt plate, and if you got rid of the grenade launcher. You could bill it as a close range weapon, for when you can't swing a pulse rifle around, because it stands to reason if you're having trouble moving around with a pulsey, you wouldn't want a grenade launcher either. the forward trigger and launcher shape just ruins the shape of the gun, in my opinion.

Did a full size printout, and laid an airsot over it, looks like I'll need to stetch it back about 2 inches and down about one otherwise it'll work.
