The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I was always under the impression that they realy don't breath...atleast not like we do...We clearly see them being very aquatic...so how do they breath under water.? Also when they first sat down on LV426 There was no oxygeon on the planet yet...that came several decades later when the colony arived...yet the face hugger had not only smashed through his space suit vissor...but was breathing for him...Are the long tubes on the aliens back actualy lungs...each one geneticaly adapted to breath in certain atmospheres...air/water/ etc....
Also if they don't need to eat...then there life span could be endless...But according to AVP the queen was frozen in ice for several hundred years...without food...or air...Gotta love these little buggers.

Speaking of not breathing, the original creature from ALIEN seemed to still be alive and active after being blown out of the Narcissus into space, suggesting they do not need to breathe anything, can withstand intense cold, and radiation, and extremely rapid depressurization.

10mm caseless (or .50HE, for some of us) still seems to do the job. :delta:

Hey Spectra...you just gave me an idea for my next fan film....In alien....and aliens... the alien, and queen are droped into space, so if the vaccume of space has no effects...and they are immune to severe cold temperatures [ice for a hundred years] and they don't have to eat..then we have two aliens just floating around out there. Waiting for a ship, or a huge asteroid to pass by, to latch onto. or better yet, the queen cacoons herself into a large ''rock looking'' object....then a passing ship's scanner picks up a faint heat signiture...it fly's over and decides to bring it on board...Thanks Spectra...gotta go write a story/script.

In the pocket Aliens: Earth hive, they mention that the Xenomorph can survive any environment. Think of them like Badass Cockroaches

I have a vague memory of one of the A3 scripts there is a asteroid mining ship that salvages a rock with a frozen/fossilized facehugger in it, that later freaks out the crew alá Alien. I thought it was kind a cool thing but getting a face hugger into space? Well it must have been something with the sewer dumping system of an infected space vessel!! ;)

But do they have a heat signature? After all they don't appear to show up Infra Red.

As for whether they eat or not I kind of agree with Kevin that it's probably better not to know as it's part of what makes them what they are ALIEN. But on the other hand how can something have that many teeth and not eat! After all it's already got a plethora of other ways to kill!

I think that scene also prooved they're quite capable of withstanding extreme heat as seen when it climbed into the Narcissus's rocket booster and held on for a bit while it was being blown out. It seemed like it was still alive as it floated away.

It makes me wonder how effective the Marines Incinerators would've been? I know it shows Apone frying one as it bursts out of one of the cocooned colonists, but one could argue that chestbursters are still susceptible to fire because they're fresh out, not full grown and don't have the protective shell that the adults have.

Was there ever a scene that showed if a flamethrower or any form of heat was effective against an adult ALIEN? I've seen a chestburster fried, the queens eggs and I'm assuming that it would work on facehuggers. Adult wise though, I've seen one get blasted from a ships rockets and one get smothered in molten Lead with apparently no ill affect. Extreme heat and then cold did prove to be lethal as seen in ALIEN 3.

hey Derick1975...the problem with the heat/flamethrowers has always ''bugged '' the crap out of me...alien 3 shows that the alien climbs out of a vat of liquid metal...the problem is that anything ''air tight'' would explode on impact with such temperatures...but they don't...YET, for an alien to survive the vaccumes of space, they would have to be air-tight...the two just don't go hand in hand....but I have always thought of the flame throwers being more of something that interferes with there sight/senses...

well, if you remember at the end, the Alien only explodes when the sprinkler system is turned on, rapidly cooling the molten lead, causing the alien to explode. also in aliens, i don't recall any alien dying except for the chestburster due to the use of the flamethrower.

Seems to me the only way to kill an Alien is high explosive rounds. Fire doesn't touch it, flame throwers would only disorient the creature at best. Moten lead and rocket engines barely slowed it. Shooting it is only a last option like if your on a planet or where explosive decompression isnt an issue due to the blood. Physical attacks would be useless, Parker and Prisoner Dillon were the only two ive seen in the series that went hand to hand with an Alien with terribly onesided results. Hitting it with a blunt object or even with a sharpened object im sure with human materials would just bounce off it and if you did penetrate the flesh you got a face full of acid.

In an Aliens comic humans developed plasma weapons which caused the bugs to explode into a molten mess but all that did was create a river of acid blood. Seems to me the bugs can be killed but the advantage is with the bugs. Ranged weaponry is the only way to go. If the aliens get onto a starship the only option is to escape then blow up the ship.

PS: Parkers death it was his head, you can just see his bandanna pulled to one side and his brains exposed when the teeth retracted.

In the old Aliens tech manual it said they could live by staying near sources of power. Stand near a transformer or something for example and it could draw energy from induction. The reason they set up camp in the Atmosphere processor.

As for Parker, I always thought he got hit in the chest? But you are right it also looks like s head shot...
