The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi guys,
I was thinking about the whole Aliens as a metaphor for the Vietnam War and it occured to me that one thing is missing from Aliens that features in almost every Vietnam War Film, MUSIC!!! Yes I know there is some pretty good incidental music like the APC Rescue/Escape sequence but there is no evidence of the Grunts listening to their kind of music! The Dropship loading and preparation sequence would be a perfect opportunity for some tunes in the background!

So what I'm suggesting in this thread is we compile a play list of our suggestions of Grunt friendly tunes! Assuming the music from late 80's to be "current" in the time of Aliens.

A quick first suggestion to start things rolling includes pretty much the WHOLE of Def Leppards album Hysteria especially the tracks;

2. Rocket
3. Animal
6. Armageddon It
7. Gods of War
8. Don't Shoot Shotgun
9. Run Riot

Your thoughts and suggestions appreciated

Just the standard dvd and vhs releases-

I was in the HD-dvd version (which as we know was just before HD-dvd bit the dust to Blu-Ray)

I spoke with my heart immediately after reading your title. However, the inclusion of rock music would've made the film a little too cliché IMHO.

The problem with putting 'current' or 'modern' music in a movie is that musice styles go out of style, thus makng the movie 'dated'. Though I dislike the movies, imagine how much worse starwars would have been with disco or phsycedelic rock. By sticking with the so called classical music the movie then takes on a more timeless air to it. Of course that only works until you note the bulky low res computer monitors or the massive helmet mic/speaker. Or the outdated helmet cam. But old tech always adds a touch of the retro future, where outdated music makes the movie, as some else already pointed out, cliche.

Besides, if you pay attention to current trends in music, it would be easy to guess by the higher use of non traditional electronic instruments that by that time period the common forms of music would be most akin to industrial(whether it be powernoize, ebm, aggrotech, etc....), so agan using an era specific form of music would only place a date on the mvie. Best to stay as neutral as possible.

Sorry metalalien, just my opinion, but that was a great example of why I'm glad they didn't.

Motley Spew cock rock, I can't think of anything worse to ruin my favourite film. :oops:

Mmmm maybe I can, Deaf Leopard. :P :wink:

I think metal alien just threatened the sanctity of this film.
But then again, first rule of the internet: nothing is sacred

Well we can't all be Duran Duran and T'Pau fans now can we? :twisted: Anyone get the Sci-Fi references in that?

Anyway it doesn't have to be Rock music this being a fine example of another genre! The more civilised among us will recognise O' Fortuna, British Phillistines around my age will recognise the music from the Old Spice adverts when they were kids and everyone else will probably think "thats from The Omen!" ;)

Personally I liked your video metalalien and I've never been a big Crue fan!

As for other genres I can imagine Bishop listening to some Classical Music while dissecting the Facehugger! Burke probably listens to whatever he thinks his superiors like, to win him Brownie points with the Company Hierarchy!

If we were to go down the route of individual characters having their own theme tunes played whenever they appear or are about to appear (a bit like the Cellos in Jaws) then I would suggest 2 possibles for Vasquez and/or Drake namely;

ACDC - For Those About To Rock
Def Leppard - Let's get Rocked

When they all "lite" up firing when first ambushed by the Xeno`s has to be "Let the Bodies hit the floor".
HAHAHAH "Sex Dwarf" by soft cell when Bishops dissecting a face hugger HAHAHA.
"Slap my Bitch up" by Prodigy when it`s Ripley vs the Queen Xeno.
"Firestarter" again Prodigy when Dietrich flamers Frost.
"The Hyme of the US Marine Corps" when Hudson rattles through all the tools at their disposal enroute to the planet.
"We`re in this together" by Nine Inch Nails when they have set up the Sentry units & prepping for the next round.

To name but a few ideas.

Just for the record I'm positive Hudson was a Crue fan. :P This is not the first time I've encountered Crue hate I had no idea it was this widespread. :lol:

No reason why the Marines can't be fans of Oldies.
They're already out of fashion and out of place in a 'modern' film.

Look at the guys in the chopper during the insertion of Predator - Little Richard playing.
