The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I think the WY brand was printed on everything they financed but it was all made by other companies or subcontractors... technically not much of what we see with a WY symbol was actually "made" by WY I think.
It's like the Dharma Initiative symbol in Lost tv series, they just print it on the stuff that the company employees use, it doesn't mean that they produce, make or build that stuff.

What we know for sure from the first 2 films is that they owned the Nostromo ship, they manufacture air processors for terraforming, finance colonization of other planets. With the information given there is no reason to believe that the military veichles used by Colonial Marines are made by WY I think.

Not likely.

IMHO the makers of Alien³ had so little respect for continuity that they didn't care about changing the WY logo, the design of the hypersleep pods, the sound of the pulse-rifles, Ripley's 'rank'... it goes on. They seemed obsessed with making everything Japanese for some reason, right down to the Coke machine on Fury 161. And all of this supposedly happened between the end of Aliens and the beginning of Alien³. Ho hum.

These are just a few of the reasons I was so disappointed with Alien³. And what's the point of writing "Weyland Yutani" in Japanese manga script katakana anyway? (second pic) Were they suggesting that everybody can read Japanese in the future? It's not unusual to find company logos written in katakana within Japan, but it seems unlikely you'd find things labeled that way elsewhere (especially offworld), even by a Japanese company. :?

What does the Japanese say?
Is it the same text as the English below it?

No, it says 'Weyland Yutani'.

Maybe the Mining Colony on Fiorina had a large Jaspanese workforce in its heyday before it became a Prison colony.

Since those pictures are of Ripley recovering the flight recorder from the "lifeboat" the composition of the Fiorina Workforce wouldn't be relevant.

Maybe that's an idea Joss Whedon developed for his Firefly world? :)

WY is connected somehow to (military) weapon production
they want the aliens to make the ultimate biological weapon

If I'm not mistaken they wanted the Alien for the bioweapon division to sell patents to the military. I don't think they have direct power over the army (nor produce weapons for them), not in Aliens anyway otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed to nuke the colony.
It's just speculation of course. I'm just saying that nothing indicate so, therefore why thinking the APC or the pulserifle coule be WY branded?
