The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Just wondering if you've seen a pic of the original transport they used for the APC. I'm sure pics have been posted already; here's one more.

I have to quote Zathras: "Not the One. NOT the One."

The Hunslet in the link is indeed the correct one. However, the Douglas would be a good substitude.

Cheers,
Stefan

It's too bad that thing is all engine. You'd never fit a full squad in there as manufactured!

Although since it doesn't have to pull airplanes, in theory the engine could be replaced with a much smaller one and make a lot more room... anyone planning to buy one and attempt? I can test pilot it

No seriously, has anyone ever reproduced a full-size one? I think I've seen a picture of something like that when Alien War opened in London, or am I confusing it with something else? Was that the screen-used APC? What ever happened to it?

I messed about with some designs and talked it through with a couple of companies.

It is not viable unless you win the lottery and it certainly can't be 1:1 scale if you plan on driving the damn thing anywhere!!
It would also be a pain to get insured and would cost another lottery win to run.

Meh... I'll stick to bikes

As I recall, the APC that appeared at the Alien War premier was the film used one.

I don't believe anyone has correctly deduced (where's Shelock Holmes when you need him?) whatever happend to the APC in the end.
The theory was that it was either sold as scrap, or possibly reconditioned back into service.

From what I recall (take that how you will), it was on loan from Heathrow and reconditioned back into service.
Anyone know of old 'storage' buildings at LHR?

I was hoping when they did terminal 4 (or was it 5?) they'd discover it in an old warehouse.

I'm pretty sure the one at the Alien War opening was a static mockup? I can't remember where I read that though.

However, I'm dubious about the idea that it was returned to service. Firstly, they allegedly removed literally 40 tons of ballast from it. Secondly, most sources say that it was used on the movie because it was being replaced - It was 1970s vintage so this would make sense. I think it unlikely they would take the trouble to put it back together and put it back into service.

Totally off topic but... why would the Colonial Marines use such a transportation in a rocky and uneven place like LV-426? The APC doesn't look like it could go anywhere else but flat surfaces, the only reason I can think is that they might have planned to use it only inside the colony complex

If you're talking about this one then it's the original APC at the 1985 UK premier of Aliens in Leicester Square.

I was a guest at the opening of Alien War and there definitely wasn't a full size APC there; they did of course have the model in the museum though.

Not for the opening but I did wear it for some preproduction photo and video shoots with the Marine actors, most notably I was in Time Out Magazine and on Sky News. :)

Nothings booked as yet I'm afraid. I'd like to exhibit next year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Aliens but I guess that would depend on if I get asked.

You know, someone could build an APC "parade float" style relatively cheap.

But then you'd have to have a flatbed to transport it, or rent one, which isn't cheap.
