The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Some of you may have heard of the new Sci-Fi Channel original series "The Dresden Files." It is based upon a series of books about a wizard/private investigator set in an alternate version of modern day Chicago.

Anyway, in the most recent book of this series, "Proven Guilty," the protagonist, Harry, has to battle an Alien. I kid you not.

The author dosn't come right out an label it a Xenomorph, but the descriptions are a dead give away - right down to the yellow acid blood. And to dispell any doubt, upon seeing the creature attacking someone for the first time, Harry bellows "Get away from her, you BITCH!" and proceeds to use such lines as "Is this gonna be a stand up fight or another bug hunt?" and "It's the only way to be sure" during the ensuing battle.

I somehow doubt this scene will make it into the TV show!

Its actually a fight with an Alien Queen. In Proven guilty the 'bad guys' are some nasty creatures that manifest themselves as whatever you fear the most. This at a horror convention - lol.

You can tell that Jim Butcher (the author) has attended a few conventions too as the general descriptions of the con and con goers are scarily accurate ;)

Theres quite alot of scifi film references thoughout the entire series of books. Ive been catching the tv series and so far it just doesnt live up to printed word. Id rate the books as an 8/10, enjoyable read with some flashes of pure brilliance. The tv series Id rate at around 4/10, pretty dull and formulaic really with none of the charm that the characters should have.

I'm hoping the series will pick up. I've got my fingers crossed. :)

Butcher also references Alien in "Death Masks." A character warns Harry not to enter an air duct, to which he replies "This isn't Alien. I'm not Tom Skerritt." Pardon my poor spelling :)

The series needs to find it's legs. Hopefully it will, but the circa 1970 style super cheesy FX from the end of last weeks show induced uproarious laughter in my household! That ain't good.

I didn't expect it to be as good as the books, it just never felt the same, right from the first advertisement it felt like "The Kindred" TV series to me, which was just aweful.

Not to mention, last time I was in Chicago they didn't say "aboot" too often!

;)

"I know I'm human. And if you were all these things, then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human. This thing doesn't want to show itself, it wants to hide inside an imitation. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it's won."
