The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Just in case anyone here missed PVB's thread - Ian seemed to like the idea of a bunch of us meeting him near the end of his run, in costume if possible.

If we get back to him with numbers of those interested and possible available, he'll let us know how his plans develop.

PVB posted:

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On July 24th I will be walking the entire length of Hadrian's Wall from Bowness on Solway to Segedunum in Wallsend in aid of HELP FOR HEROES, completing the entire 84 mile journey within 24 hours.

HELP FOR HEROES is a support charity for wounded service men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, ordinary people doing an extra ordinary task and in many cases having to live the rest of their lives with the consequences of their sacrifice. This is for the real warriors, the real heroes. The men and women who give more than anybody ever asks and ask little in return. Please give generously and help me to help them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Great idea, we just need to work out , place , time and day, .... at the start on 17 or at the end on 18 ?
Is anyone thinking of asking Ian if they can join him in some or all of his walk? rather than just meet him near the end?

Well, my exact words were:
Quote:
Hi Ian - It's Steve Fletcher / Scapey from the UKCM here.

Just an idea - Would you be up for as many of the UKCM as can make it joining you for a little bit of your charity run in costume?
Could make for a good photo op if you had an "honour guard" ;)

If so, say the word and I'll see what we can muster!

Or if you'd prefer not, a few of us plan to come along in civvies to cheer you on anyway. Well done, mate. Much kudos to you for this!

Thanks,
S.

And his reply was:
Quote:
Hi Steve,
I can just see Aliens, Predators and Marines on Newcastle Quayside as we come through on the last legs! Early days of planning yet, let me know how many people fancy a jaunt to the North East and I'll keep you posted on planning. Many thanks to the UKCM guys for getting my fund raising started with a bang!

Ian

Need to make sure I can get the night off work first, and just changed bosses!

And, obviously, need to hear Ian's preferences.

Last mile or two maybe. Not all of us are fit enough to do 5.

In for this.

For anyone who doesn't know where it is (I didn't know), the route of the wall is from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne across to the west of Carlisle.

I was thinking ... how about if enough of us are up for this, instead of meeting Ian at the end , we divide into small groups ( 2 or 3 's ) and walk with Ian in shifts, one group does say 5 miles ? , then another group does another 5 miles ... im not saying we walk the whole 84 miles  , we would be like a support team ? what do you guys think.. ?

That would take more logistics that you'd imagine.

At the very least, we'd need a minibus and some very careful mapping/planning. Finding Ian to start a shift would be a problem we would need to solve - I believe much of his route will be cross-country?

A road runs alongside the wall in sight of it for a good stretch.
