The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So, in the last 5 years, has anyone else made any progress? I know Tony dremelled out his intake vents and someone else rebuilt their pods from styrene.

I got this Kit quite a while after most of the rest of the guys ..

Lets see, most of mine is still in bits, half built APC bay, which will drop in once finished,
3rd try at Pods, now have made a mould of one and re cast it in resin/ fibreglass tissue , so it's hollow, did build ones from plastic card but found it not strong enough for me.
Dremelled out the intakes, and lights,
done test Landing leg,(going to build the legs down, too much of a pain to have retractable landing gear) not worked out the rear leg yet though did find a bit of a car model kit that might be the right shape for it..
built up front missile pods,
did remake all the rear fins from plastic card, but might end up using the ones that came with the Kit.

For me the Bitch of this build is the cockpit, lost count the number times i have built , ripped it apart and built it again, now decided to build a EU cockpit, using bits from a Hind Helicopter to beef up the cockpit.. as i can not find any really good pictures / drawings of the cockpit layout...

To be honest i'm a bit lazy about this kit, if i had all the parts i needed and a spare week or so i could build it up to a rough looking dropship..

So not sure if i have done more than anyone else, I know you Jon have done a lot to this kit in the past..

I just read the thread (as I have one of these as well) and I'm not sure what this is all about!
Also, I think these things are best discussed in person. But I think this might be a problem with the given distances... :?

Jon,
Could you please explain what was wrong with the Dropship kit deal?
Are you disappointed about the parts as such or because it is no complete kit?
Did you feel ripped off because of the price tag?
Did Willie upset you by asking for some of the stuff you made for your Dropship?

Please let me know as I'd like to understand the situation.

Cheers,
Stefan

I think the more polite way to phrase that question would have been "Who's been doing the work with you"...

And again, unless I completely misunderstood the intention of the project ( Correct me if I have, please, those involved ) but since the whole point is to share resources between every person who bought the base casting, it kinda goes without saying that Willie will share what he has.

Just making sure credit is given where credit is due.

Indeed and I've "shared" what I can - but due to the modifications I've made most of my parts aren't going to fit anyone else's bird (and dimensions keep changing as the build evolves). The complexity of some of the parts means the only way to manufacture more is to re-machine them. Or make another complete set of parts which are less detailed but more easily reproduce-able.

PS here's where I got to:

http://www.b26354.co.nz/dsmissile_web/index5.html

go back to page 1 to see where it all started.

Hm.
Well, I don't know you, aside from your postings on here, and I have to say - You're not coming across too well in this thread.
It seems that you have a chip on your shoulder about this project, and some sort of vendetta against Willie Goldman.

And for the record, I also only know Willie from his postings on here.

And your comment about "Who did that for you?" does read as if you're having a snide dig at him, and slyly accusing him of expecting other people to build his kit for him with no return on his part... When from what I've seen, Willie has always helped others as much as possible with whatever they've needed.

The latter section of your reply to me seems to read as if you thought I was accusing you of refusing to share your information/work - Which is not what I meant at all, but if it were then that would be your prerogative.
My problem is that it seems as if Willie has emailed you with a few polite requests for assistance, and you have taken offense at him sending repeat emails... When your ignoring his initial attempts at communication necessitated the follow-ups in the first place.
I'm still at a loss as to what exactly Willie did to piss you off so much, and would really like to see this entire situation resolved amicably as this forum is "home" to me and seeing members here argue kinda reminds me of siblings fighting. It's not pleasant, and it's not necessary.

If Willie has offended you, then he's already apologised - And if he's inadvertently wronged you, then I have enough of an idea of his character to be confident that he will do what he can to make amends if he knows what he did in the first place!
Again, if I've misread any of the situation, feel free to set me straight.

Ball > Your court.

Jon,
you said a lot of parts won't fit due to the changes you made to your DS. That's true.
However, there are also parts that would fit - the front landing gear skids for example.
These would fit any of the kits and you already made a mold for them.
So is it really so out of line to ask if you would share the mold or a cast of these parts to get them replicated for the others?
From what I read Willie even offered to compensate you for these - so what is this really all about?

Cheers,
Stefan

The front skid was one of the first asymmetrical 2 part moulds I designed to be machined and it's not particularly accurate. Also casts of it would need their sides sanded flat and the raised details added. I was planning on scratch building new ones from sheet styrene and acrylic since it's actually easier to do that than make the resin casts work.

Also - I just dug it out of storage and, in an effort to save material, there's actually something else (unrelated) machined into the flip side of the master so I'd have to send off a silicone mould. So, even with just the cost of materials, that'll be kind of expensive (it'll take over a litre of silicone (16cm x 16cm x 5cm = 1280cc) and I don't have the luxury of buying in bulk). Add shipping and it doesn't really seem worth it when they could easily be fabricated from sheet styrene.

Guys, all addon parts will be offered separately or as a total package , these all fit the DS we have this has been the goal from the beginning finish a great kit that was offered.. I am going to do that for those that are interested...

parts:

Canopy/w clear window inserts
Cockpit /matching life size prop
2 seated figures w/correct helmets (Vietnam style)
Gatlin gun
VTOL thruster
Left and Right Font Landing Gear
Rear Landing Gear
Missile pod left and right
Missile Pod swing arms
Pod missile mounts
Missiles upper pod area
All missiles/rockets for forward array
Rear engine insert thrusters
Rear engine ventricle
Rear Engine side scoop essembly
Adjustable Ramp
Ramp pistons
Ramp piston controller boxes x2
Internal bay detail boxes
Internay bay rear wall detail
Front cargo bay airlock essembly
Lower rear wing
Upper fins x2
12 laser cut cargo bay u beams
Laser cut Vinyl cargo bay details upper and side walls
VooDoo FX lighting kit
Decals

I am scratching a new hull that these parts will fit on that will have a cargo bay cast in and did I mention the thousands of rivets molded in! God I hate rivets! There is also talk to make a smaller APC that goes with the DS in the scale we currently have..

All parts will fit the dropship... with some modifications to your hull can you say dremel?

Most parts were scratch built by me and Isel Gato, all parts 2D designed by me, in scale in Illustrator... 3d work by Mr. Mike Reis (Maya), 3d movies and renders by me (3d studio max) .... rapid proto by PCS Engineering.

I will be doing all the molding and casting, packaging and shipping... and thanks to Willie for setting this whole thing up.. there... hope I didnt forget anyone..

A team of guys.. not one... but a team of artists to finish out the DS!

Jon is right.... I did bug him about making parts from his masters.. thats what I thought we could do....share the work so we all can get the parts, Jon was clear from the get go... he had no interest in doing that... as he was to busy.

So without his parts... made me work that much harder to get these parts made. I already knew Illustrator and Photoshop.. So Im learning Rhino, Studio max and Maya..... there is nothing we cant make now... absolutely nothing.

Guys stay turned to further updates on the parts release date.

Willie waiting on the paint and decals!

"ON THE READY LINE MARINES! WERE ON AN ELEVATOR TO HELL!!!! GOING DOWN!!!!!"

Willie,

Nice work on the model upgrades.

Sadly, it's unfortunate to watch formerly respected members of the community crap on their friends and publicly self-destruct.

Again.

Happy New Year, Jon.

Get some rest.

Hey guys,

Heres some shots of the front landing gear.. highly detailed red santa bucket NOT included!

white mixture on the DS is not shaving cream! Its a thinned mixture of expoxy sculpt to fill in the grand canyon seam lines!! Im not sure what the DS was cast in but it does not like anything sticking to it!

As far as the landing gear go, will offer scale drawings for those that want to make the parts in brass tubing...

Are his 'parts' screen accurate, though?
Are they to scale?
Are they fully functional or static replicas?
Are they OD or Brown Bess?

Are we off topic yet?
