Country: United Kingdom
hi all,

Im about to embark on my first pr. Im going with Matsuo shrouds and grenade launcher, sd barrel vent and stock and maybe plecter labs electrics.

Im not sure where to go for the thompson parts, I know I can get an airsoft but it seems a waste as id never shoot it, does anyone know or anybody doing resin thompson parts? Matt moulds are shot for those.

also, im in the uk so thats also an issue.

I cnat wait till the parts arrive and i can get started, ill be sure to start a build up thread

Thats still an airsoft, buts its a cheap airsoft. Probably not up to much perfprmance wise, and covered in hideous green paint, but it has its advantages

Its cheap
It doesnt require a VCRA exemption to buy
Youll be removing the green guff anyway

Just a thought.

with regards to the VCRA from what I've gather if you point your gun at a member of the public and they think it's real that classed RIF. So your going to have trouble either way. So go to your local air soft site with correct insurance play 3 games in no less than 2 months have fun and get signed up to the UKARA(you don't have to be a member to buy airsoft guns but for importing i find it to be the easiest way), get yourself a thomson and legal make your self a pulse rifle. By the way there are a couple of shops in the US that sell broken airsoft thompson for about $50.00

True on the cheapo Airsofts, in fact one of the reasons I dont really care if my thompson molds went bad is that I can buy broken airsofts with metal parts for less than what I would have charged for an all resin thompson kit.

The only advantage to my older M1 resin kits is that you can put real thompson parts in them, like the entire fire control group and mag catch, and they had a working bolt. But they did have their fragile spots. On the whole the airsofts are more sturdy... weather you use them for airsofting or not is often a moot point... it was cheaper and involved less labor and material cost to install a broken airsoft in over a resin kit.

i was looking into a cheapy airsoft one for ym next build
but i am looking at a full airsoft build for my next one
if it looks plasticy a good paint job will easily rectify that problem
i was toying with the idea of a deactivated thompson for a build

That cheap Thompson really is a pile of s**t! Very plasticy, and useless to actually shoot. However, with a decent paint job and some weathering, plus rip out the insides and fill it with something to give it some weight, you could probably get away with using it for a non functioning PR

How come your exempt from the VCRA then?

i'm exempt due to being a crown servant
perks of the job

but yeah cheapy thompson put some weight to it, keep the working mag catch and bolt and give it a good paint job
i may give that a go and see what i come up with as an experiment

Wait a minute... you think the cheap airsoft is too plasticy... and instead you wanted a RESIN (IE: hand cast plastic) Thompson?

Explain the logic to me please.

easy really, a resin thompson would most likely be cast from a real one so the surface texture and sizewould be the same and you know its gonna fit. a cheap plastic bb gun could have that nasty sandpaper texture, probably a seamline or 2 where you dont want it and no guarrentees that its gonna fit the same.

just look at some of matsuo's resin guns compared to plastic bb ones.

on another note, can ayone here tell me what you get up to on a airsoft skirmish, If i have no other option than go airsoft, may as well go all the way

You shoot people with BBs and attempt to complete objectives :)

I own Section 8 near Glasgow, and we run games from the simplest of "Kill anyone not you" up to multiple-hour multiple-objective scenarios with 2 main teams and smaller "bandit" types in the mix.
As an example, our newest game involves every player picking a card from a deck. Then one team must transport bags of "cocaine" across a designated border.
If shot, players must be bandaged by a team mate before they can move again - If an enemy reaches them first, they can search them - And whoever is carrying the highest value card gets to keep the baggie of flour ;)

Here's one of Boltrig's videos from the site:

Exactly - The extra realism is what makes Airsoft more attractive.
As well as the much much much cheaperness.

Unless, of course, everyone else is carrying full-auto sniper-modified m4's with box magazines... whilst some of us try to keep up with our 30-round stock mp5's... :?

'I am a member of the Armed Forces ( including the T.A) can I buy a RiF?'

There are no exceptions to the legislation for members of any of the services, the crown servant section refers to purchase for the crown by crown servants not individuals. Service personnel are still required to become a member of an insured Airsoft Site or Club to be eligible to purchase RiFs.

I would imagine that's to cover the actual officers/admin staff (sorry I don't know the actual job title) of the civil service that order the guns for the armed forces to use.
