The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I don't find it offensive in the least. However, there will be 10,000 people passing though this event. If you think that none of these people will take offence (reasonably or unreasonably) then go for it. A large proportion of these people will have either not seen the Indy films, or will not make the connection.

I dress up as a murderous rapist. However, it is absolutely fictional ...

I cannot stop you, in the same way I cannot stop you attending the event stark naked. It is ultimately up to you. But, the UKCM does not endorse the mid-20th century Nazi government of Germany.

On a personal note, wear your nazi uniform if you like, but no way near the UKCM.

is it a nazi uniform? or just a German army uniform? I think it would be in bad taste to go dressed a nazi!
However, if its just German army, and your going to be hanging around with Indy, then go for it!

The most sensitive members of the public will likely not make that distinction.

I'd have to agree - This has come up at Section 8 in the past, and my take on skirmishing in WWII German gear is "It's fine, in context."
Those of us with a bit of knowledge understand the difference between "WWII German uniform" and "Nazi uniform" but the vast majority of the general public will not. Especially if there's any hint of SS flashes or Swastikas.

Unless you're with Indy and his Dad ( And by that, I mean "You have talked to them in advance, and agreed to be part of their group whilst in your costume"! Don't just turn up and start tagging along! ), there is no context - And we most definitely do NOT want the UKCM... Who obviously are military themselves... To be associated in any way with Nazi imagery. There's too big a risk of our good name and reputation being tarnished through misunderstanding.

Sorry if that seems harsh, but that's how it is.

I like some of the guys on this site know the difference between German uniforms and Nazi Uniforms, 99% of the Public at these cons would not, they would just think you are dressed in a Nazi Uniform , even though you stated it's a German Uniform..
I would say that most of the public would find it offensive, in fact they might even complain to the people running the con and you could be asked to leave..

Would I find it offensive if you came dressed in a German uniform ? yes i would, just as i find it offensive that you have Hitler as your avatar..

WW2 Uniforms belong in some like The war and peace show at the hop farm Kent.. NOT at a sci-fi con..

Unless you were to try something like one of those Nazi Zombies, but even then the negative connotations will ensue.

It's not just Sci-Fi here, though - It is everything TV, comic, sport and Movie. It has relevance, but that will likely be missed by most people.

It can be a tough call playing the bad guys, especially when they have real-life associations with real-life badness.
The fact that the term 'Stormtrooper' carries a lot of negative connotation itself, is conveniently lost, I think.

TBH, I thought it was a lovely idea, but the vast majority of people just won't, I'm afraid.

I have booked the function room of the Hand&Flower Pub/Hotel between 8pm and 11pm on the Saturday. This should give us plenty of time to shower and get dinner beforehand.

ADC is going to premier his documentary - more info here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7268

OK. I have moved the booking slightly - the film will hopefully still show at about 8pm, but we have the room from 7pm.

This is to allow us to have dinner in the room before the film showing. Annoyingly, their new menu is coming out on Wednesday that has "more choice". This is lucky, because their old one seems a bit sparse :(

I will try and put in some more leg work to get a look at the new menu and let you know.

Annoyingly, they wanted a weeks notice to be able to offer the Xmas menu to a party of our size. However, people might be able to creep downstairs, order and have it brought up???? ;)

Big problem by those who need to travel by tube.

Both the District and circle lines are CLOSED this weekend.

This means that i will be doubtful i can attend after all because i need to get there. I dont know how im going to get there let alone get back after the Documentary.

Looks like my trip is killed off before ive even begun. I get to waterloo station. then onto both lines. I dont know what to do. Looks like im going to have to cancel.

Don't Panic Mr Mainwaring!

Remember that the Piccadilly line is still open to Earl's Court and Baron's Court stations. Personally, I'm coming from the west so will be walking from Baron's Court.

Alas, you still have to get onto the Piccadilly line somehow...

EDIT: Rusti - Take the Bakerloo line from Waterloo to Piccadilly Circus and then the Piccadilly line to Baron's Court

Right just done some digging, you need to get on a train from Clapham Junction to kensington. (actually this would be easier for me. because i go past Clapham on the way to waterloo!) However there will be delays. Joy!

PS: thanks Pug, thats an idea if plan B dont work!

What sort of times are you guys going to get there? I'm planning on arriving at around 08:00-0830. Assuming travel goes well.

Additional info if you're arriving at Baron's Court - To get to Olympia 2, turn LEFT out of the station and keep walking straight, crossing a dual-carriageway. The road ends in a T-junction: turn right and keep walking - Olympia 2 is the first exhibition hall you come to on the left.

The Hand & Flower Hotel/Pub is a bit further up, opposite the other halls of Olympia.
