The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The new year begins, we look ahead and feel hope for the things this year will bring and then... some theiving bastard steals over £500 from your bank account

OK, so they didn't steal my new boots but now I can't afford to buy any and as anyone who's been to any shows with me lately will tell you, I really need some. Duct tape just isn't cutting it anymore.

I just logged onto my internet banking account and found my joint account considerably overdrawn. Looking at the list of transactions I find 4 international Maestro cash withdrawals totalling £540. To say I was angry is an understatement.

i spoke to the bank who will now launch an "investigation" and should they conclude that the transactions are fraudulent they will look at giving me my money back. This could take up to 7 weeks. Apparently my standing as a customer for 13 years is not enough to take my word for it that these withdrawals made in another country somewhere were not carried out by myself.

Last month over £100 was taken from my other account on a card transaction. I am beginning to think that my details may have been sold to someone from within the bank itself. It seems unlikely that someone would otherwise get enough details of both my accounts to make clone cards. Especially as I never use the actual card on the account that they took £540 from as it is only used for paying bills.

In this modern age of security measures and chip and pin etc etc it amazes me that this crap still happens.

Not the start to the new year i was hoping for.

Sorry to vent but just felt the need to share.

Cheers

Darren

Terrible news Darren; sorry to hear that man. :(

Hope everything works out for you- every last pound back where it belongs.

And don't worry about ranting- we all need to vent when something bad happens. :)

Darren...

Call the bank NOW and place a hold on all transactions not in your local area. If the bank will not comply then close your account and all cards referencing to it and open up another account there and then (or if they are d*cks about it with another bank).

Let them work their investigation but cut all ties with that card/account.

I'm sure they will find it fraudalent as the transactions were international and.....well you are not.
Keep us posted!!

Thanks guys. I'm sure the investigation will result in getting my money. I guess the fact that the transactions are international should work in my favour really.

I dont think putting a hold on transactions outside my local area is something we can do over here Tony. At the moment the cards are cancelled so that should put an end to any further transactions but opening new accounts is a good idea and I may well do that thanks.

Matt, sorry to hear about your alarm box mate. Hope it turns up soon.

Cheers

Darren

that's a bummer, man.
the same happened to a girl I went out with. it is far more common than one would expect.

she did get all her money back after six weeks, but of course it is still very stressful.

But the refund will be made, they can't deny you.

Keep that M41-A handy and stay frosty! If they catch them, I say we waste 'em!

Well it keeps getting better this year.

Armed with two brand new cards for both my sole and joint account I thought things would be OK. Today, however, I find that someone has stolen £455 from my sole account. Again International ATM withdrawals. Despite having only had this new card for a matter of a weeks and having never told ANYONE what my Pin number is and I have never recorded the number anywhere either. I phoned the bank and told them that it is impossible for this to happen unless someone in their bank is selling my details. I now have to instigate a second investigation and go to the bank tomorrow where I will demand that they reimburse me all the money NOW and I will, as Tony said I should have done, close both of these accounts immediately.

ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH

That is insane!!!

Not sure about UK law as I've only been in finance here in the US but the bank SHOULD put all the money back into your account as it is a fraudulent and up to them to investigate.
Again keep us posted but please please cut all ties to 'that' account and be sure to tell the bank to open a FRESH account and not just a new account using details from the old one - better safe than sorry.

Fingers crossed for you buddy!!

iv just spoken to my mother, she works for citizens advice. Its highly unlikely that you've had 2 sets of cards cloned in such a shirt time, so its probably down to the bank, and in which case its down to them to sort it out and give you your money back.
If they start taking too long to sort it out, or give you a load of bollocks, go to a solicitor. most solicitors near us will give you the 1st half hour free if you ask, so you can save a bit of money that way.
let me know if ya need to know anythin else :)
