The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I loved the late Jerry Goldsmith's score for Alien even though the soundtrack was not as exactly appears in the movie, being chopped-around by Ridley (IMHO the right choice, as the movie music appears to fit the scenes better than that planned). It's haunting, and in the movie not too intrusive - two tracks for some reason even ended up in Aliens.

James Horner's score for Aliens is one of my favourites of all time, and an amazing job especially considering the pressures he was under (as shown in the bonus features on the DVD/Blu Ray). It has been known to appear in numerous trailers, (first time I heard it used that way was strangely enough for the Predator trailer, before the franchises were linked), and an unused portion from the ending track even appeared in Die Hard's climax.

The other two soundracks were unfortunately a bit 'meh' for me, though the Goldenthall soundtrack worked for Alien 3, it just didn't grab me like the others.

So who else has just relaxed, feet up, reading a book, with the CD on? OR is that a dumbass question?? :)

I fell asleep when I was around 16/17 with my CD-Walkman on (iWhat??) forgetting I had half the Alien soundtrack and half Metallica.
As soon as the 3rd or 4th track from Alien came on it scared the living crap out of me. I woke up and sat bolt upright flinging the headphones and cd player off the bed, smashing it into bits.

Good times... ;)

I have the original CD (I "think" there was an extended CD released?). I used to listen to it all the time while working on USCM related build projects or uniforms.

The "deluxe edition" Aliens CD is way more satisfying than the first one they put out. Not as bad as the Blade Runner debacle though!

Even though Aliens is my favorite film I have to say Alien and Alien3 both are more satisfying listening experiences. All told, I might like Alien3 the best as far as something to listen to while driving. It has a fantastic structure and the climax is extremely cathartic. I may be project a bit though as Alien3 is *still* a sad memory for me.

I listen to the deluxe edition of Aliens all the time. Like Kevin, I use it as a way to get me inspired while working on Aliens related projects. I too used to listen to it in bed and fall asleep, only to get a rude awakening by a few of the tracks.

I had the original (still do, somewhere), and picked up the Deluxe Edition. If you can, I heartily recommend it, as it includes many additional tracks (The music during Ripley's dream at the beginning, that was re-used when Dietrich was grabbed and Bishop was impaled), and an original version of the music for the Combat Drop, not used in the movie itself, but you'll recognise it from the documentaries - very "marine-ish" :D
