The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

You can be an ex wife or an ex husband. With the Marines, it's 'former Marine'.

I'm sorry if my pride in the Corps bothers you. Wait, no I'm not.

Your pride bothers nobody.

But your statement that people who don't know the difference between "Hoo-ah" and "Ooh-rah" and "Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye" have no place being here went beyond pride and into arrogance.

Well the dumbest thing about the other AVP game made it over to this one: you only fight one freaking Predator throughout the whole game. Hundreds of Aliens, and one Predator! And he wasn't even that hard to kill!

Overall, I think this game is just ok. I expected more, and it could have been so much more. Hopefully Colonial Marines won't let me down.

I had a harder time killing the hybrid Alien thing than the Predator. And killing the Hybrid as the Predator was super easy compared to doing it as the Marine. As a Marine I died... over and over and over and...

Marines should be issued the Predator throwing disk. :)

I liked the game, i feel the game is the direction the movies should have took IMHO. I liked the little changes to the look and feel, just a little more detailed and refined than Aliens taking into account the 20 plus year gap in movie time and technology. Plus its a game, its designed to entertain and for me it did that in spades.

Likes: story, design work, new flamer (dont like the old sorry.) Dislikes: Offline too short. Multiplayer a bit restictive. 7/10

As for the Hoorah argument: im not a US citizen and as far as i can tell the Her Maj's Armed forces dont do the hurrah thing, just plain 'yes Sir.' (Correct me if i am wrong.) The forum is designed for the love of the Alien movies and associated productions, not standing on parade outside of simple respect of fellow forum members.

ROFL!

It would be AWESOME if English troops used "Hurrah!" where USians use "Hoo-ah" and "Hoo-rah"!

Finally had a chance to play it thought it was decent but could have been better. Only major beef: why do most of the male civvies in the alien campaign look like Bill from King of the Hill? Or is there something in the air causing male pattern baldness?

Scuttling back under my rock now.....

LOL I meant Bill. Nothing like a planet full of Bill clones banging on your door wanting in I think I would prefer the aliens....

Er... Mr. Weyland sir, don't mean to intrude but... uh there's something out here scampering around on the ground...uh..that looks like my ex-wife's private parts with eight legs and a tail...could you let me in please...I can sleep on the couch?

oh dang ......here it comes....dang I'm dead....wait not dead yet...ok now I'm dead...I think....well that was just like sex with my ex....does anyone have an antacid?

Hated that show I hauled propane for 5 years and wanted to strangle anyone who mentioned that show.

Anyway getting back on topic does anyone ever remember a game aliens vs predator: extinction? I think it was PS2 I thought that was a good game except the sound would always go to hash if you got in a major firefight. The screen would show waypoints on your tracker and the screen would only show your surroundings as you moved toward your target so you never knew til you got close what it was.

Yeah, I played that game for the PS2. I still have it. I thought it was pretty damn good; kind of like an Aliens/Colonial Marines/Predator RPG. I got to the one part where you have to destroy like four Predator gun emplacements, and it was just impossible. I tried every combination of Marines and my guys just kept getting slaughtered. That is, until I put in the cheat code. Then I kicked ass.

Well, time for the follow up.

I finally finished the Alien and Predator campaigns.

Overall, this game was fun. It grows on you, and I found I enjoyed it more just playing a piece at a time instead of just marathoning through it. I have gone back to several levels just to check things out again. The little scripted events can be pretty neat. Not complicated like Half Life or anything, but neat and creative, and above all, contributing to the story. The graphics were decent, the sounds and music different. Yeah, there were some differences between the movies and this, but all in all, its pretty minor. Here are some things that stood out.

Aliens are mean. No really, mean. It was fun being an alien, and harvesting people. Odd how they all looked like the same old middle age guy fighting baldness, but hey, space is strange, right? I liked the animations for the "stealth kills." The reach of the claw swipe seemed a little short at times. The absolute worst though was the dizzying auto transition. I think that AvP2 had a better interface for the alien. I remember feeling a LOT less frustrated and motion sick playing that game compared to this one.

Predators are mean too. I don't ever remember once feeling any fear as a predator - I was just a one-creature killing machine. I ripped off heads and eviscerated prey until the cows came home. I loved those trophy kill animations! I think the Predator in this game was more entertaining to play than he was in the other two games. I actually felt like I was hunting, and not just wading through enemies with ungodly powerful weapons and armor. I liked the backstory/background in the Predator campaign, it felt really emersive.

And the Marine ... well, life is hard as a Marine. The "rookie" deal aside, and some other little glitches, I had a great time. The guns and armor grew on me. If I could change ONE thing right of, it would be the sound of the Smartgun. Making that movie style would have been perfect ... oh well. The only real bad part to the Marine, and its a gamewide problem is ... they are morons. To say they are just incredibly stupid is an understatement, and calling them retarded is an insult to retarded people galaxywide. Those idiots can't hit the broadside of a barn, or see much further than ten feet. Their AI is TERRIBLE. It makes you want to cry sometimes. Hunting them as a Predator was far easier than it should have been at times because they have no idea about combat, other than randomly spraying, or just standing around oblivious. As an Alien, you could sneak up, right in front of them in semi-dark and never be seen. For being the premier fighting force of the future, they acted pretty lousy - especially since they KNOW about aliens now ... Best I can tell, nearly an entire company dropped on the planet between the dropships an EEV pod, and they were wiped out almost completely within hours! A single section made it longer in the movie ... In a nutshell, bad AI pretty much doomed them. They had the hardware to mop the floor with the other species.

So, after playing the whole game, I think I could give it an 8.5/10. It had some great moments, offset by some annoying glitches/AI. It does seem as if Sega's timetable was the real culprit here. I won't go into Multiplayer, because I don't mess with it much. No DLC, and I won't pay for something that should have been in the original release. The MP maps are pretty repetitive, and there are only two CoOp maps.

So, if you are on the fence, and don't have the cash to roll the dice ... wait until it drops in price, which I imagine will be a short time out. If you have the cash, and you feel adventurous, go for it. You'll probably have a lot of fun. I did!

It's good fun being an Alien. :xeno:

Was hoping to harvest all civvies, but there was one in a 'sealed' area at the start that I couldn't get to, then later on I scared one so much he shot himself.

This one I did creep down through a duct, but he saw me and ran.

Edit: I think it was in the area where you start as the Marine.

All the others I've managed to get behind, but I think I should have killed the Marine nearby first, then maybe got around the side of him. :)

Is that where one runs as soon as he sees you, runs away, warning his mate working on the elevator and continues into the control room where he shoots himself? Yeah, you need to be very quick for him a just chase. A focused leaping light attack will delay his suicidal tendency ;)

I think that was it, yes. :)
I'm not that good at games as you know, hence why I've not got any of the 'collection' cheevos.

I wonder if you can redo the levels (once completed) and then still get the cheevo? That might be an option if I feel like it. :)
