The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Here is the work I did for my knife sheath. Again, it's not screen accurate, but it works so I like. I took an old 9mm magazine pouch that is SIDE MOUNT (little harder to find, it sits left to right on the belt rather up and down). I seam ripped out the clips and the cover and the bottom lacing, making basically a rectangular cloth tube.

Image

Image

I cut/burned (it's a nylon fabric) that hole to allow for the sheath snap. More on that later.

I marked off center points on the rear to add snaps. These snaps will be added to the webbing on the armor.

Image

I made slight cuts to open a hole, added the snap base, and trimmed to fit.

Image

Then I just completed the snap.

Image

I seam ripped a lot on the original sheath and basically removed the MOLLE portion and folded it double. I didn't take any pics of that, but it wasn't too hard to do really. I left it double since it added enough bulk to friction lock the two pieces together.

When that was done, I slowly forced the sheath into the green pouch.

Image

Image

It's in there solid and tight. Not coming out. Previously I have used velcro added to the inside to lock it in place, but this sheath didn't need it. The combination of the thickness of the sheath and the cutout for the snap keep it from moving at all when the knife is drawn.

Finished product:

Image

I'm leaving the velcro straps on the back for two reasons: 1) it will help secure it to the shoulder webbing. 2) it will cover the snaps on the shoulder webbing and help prevent damage to the armor.

Yeah I keep my Nostromo on display at the house next to some predator bio-helmets. If I'm not dead tired when I get home I will toss up a picture of that.

Not the best pics, but here is my Nostromo display:

And my others:

I'd like to do more but we're just renting so I don't want to invest a lot in making cool displays.

That is really awesome. Getting mannequins to model my marine gear has been something I wanted to do a long time. I look forward to seeing your setup when you do get place where you can get elaborate and truly make it your own.

Mannequins are getting REALLY expensive! I'm going to come up with my own design and make something out of wood, similar to my armour stands.

I can't see the link without signing in, but "duct tape dummy" very nicely sums up what I did too.

I used half mannequins for mine. $25 apiece on eBay but shipping is what is bad.

Minor update. Ordered a Pelican im3100 OD green case for the PR and I'm looking at getting some stencils. Doing my sketches now for the personalization of the case. The pelican should be here on the 9th but I will be busy with work so it will be a few days before I can do anything with it. Hopefully my shoulder lamp and motion tracker will be arriving in a few weeks as well.

What did the pelican end up costing Charlie? I'm still scouring the 'net for alternatives...not much luck yet.

Prices varied depending on the model and the websites. I went with pelicancases.com since they had OD green storm cases. The standard pelican 1700 were available on amazon but only in black.

LOL. I think you mean Spat, and yes I ordered one of his kits. :) I made a info plate for it too, much like I did for the pulse.

More sketches! I've started the design phase for the iPhone addition to the motion tracker.

Image

Image

The plan right now is to make it of plexiglass, held together with round head hex screws and epoxy. I will have two days off (in a row!! WOOT!) so I am hoping to be out in the shop playing with the band saw and cutting some plastic.

I've also gotten my pelican case. A wee bit heavy, but super tough and I am printing out cutouts now. It's slow going, since I have to 1:1 scale everything and then verify it actually fits and then space it out and then remeasure the space and then tweak it and then measure again and finally get to marking the cuts...you get the idea. :) I do have an electric foam cutter, although I haven't ever cut anything as big as the foam in the pelican. (For those not familiar, it's three layers of 1.5" foam inside a tough hard shell. The weapon is designed to rest inside a cutout in the middle layer). I will have most of my printouts for spacing done this week. I am basically using homemade paper outlines of the various gear (or at least the general shape) so i can space everything inside the case. Then the foam gets outlined with those pieces, and finally cut out. Right now I think I can get the PR, an M4A3 pistol, a spare mag, the sling, and at least a few grenades. I will have to play paperdolls with the cutouts before I can really get a final idea of how much it will safely hold. Hopefully pics to follow soon.

I've also ordered one of these

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/156411 ... ubv1810212

and I have an appointment at the CNC machine shop on Friday. Hehehehehe.

I managed to find some Avery's 8.5"x11" clear sheets, so I can finally make some stickers larger than 2"x4". I will be playing around for labels for Pelican, the M40 ammo box, and a few other things. I will post those files up here if anyone wants to use them.

Well, I have started work on the cutouts. I took images of the different items, put them in photoshop and made outlines. Then I scaled them to 100% size, and printed them out on 8.5"x11" paper. The only problem child was the PR but I got it figured out. Here are the cutouts:

Image

I still have a few additional ones to make; the magazine for the PR, the case for the grenades, but it is a start. Most of the others will be simple shapes (rectangles) so these were the hard ones to do.

Here is what it looks like, same pictures, but I put the real items on top. Pretty good fit, I think.

Image

The case is a Pelican Storm im3100 in OD Green.

Image

It has plenty of room for the gear.

Image

Here's my proposed layout (the grenade box is the last thing I am waiting to size, and it is supposed to be delivered today).

Image

Hopefully I will get a chance to cut some foam tonight!

Graphic for the label of the case. It replaced the original Pelican label. If you look in my previous pictures, there is a small rectangle on the bottom of the case where it goes. 3.75"x2.75"
