The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ah, good information, but as NONE of those things have ANYTHING to do with Gorman's OD uniform which is what this thread was actually about... ;)

Where's that 'derailed train' icon when I need it. ;)

After re-reading my comment to Ttaskmaster, my comments came off a bit snarky. That wasn't my intention. I just bumped the thread so I could nab any relevant info about the OD uniform.

Harry and I will be fleshing out a guide for this uniform in the near future similar to the Gridcase guide I did recently.

Carry on discussing what you will. Perhaps we'll do a guide for the casual dress uniform as well, as there seems to be the desire for such information.

Just been through the whole SoF catalogue - None of their stuff (US/Vietnam or otherwise) has OG shirts with points at the bottom...

Custom made, maybe?
Looks quite neat....

Man, my eyes ache....

I just searched through over a million Google images to try and find this bloody Gorman shirt.
I've found nothing in a military style OD/OG shirt that matches, throughout most of the world's militaries, current and historical.

Either it was a rare issue item, or it was custom-made.
It looks like someone's sewn back pockets off a pair of trousers onto the shirt...

Closest I've ever found is the P1958 Utility shirt.
With collar changed to mandarin stylee it might do the job.

I want to say the latter, that does look very modified. Not too many shirts I can think of have flat breast pockets. Interesting.

What gets me is the deeply pointed pocket bottoms. That's a sharp point, normally found on classic dress shirts (non-military). I've seen a couple similar (military) but none in OG... or OD if you're in the Americas.

Think it'll be cheaper to find myself a seamstress!!

OK, so... anyone got a screenie of his trousers/pants, then?
Gimme something to do at work tomorrow :D

Considering that Gorman's Service C shirt and the Marines' BDUs were both custom made, it is likely that Gorman's OD shirt was a custom job as well.

Does anyone have some good quality screen caps of Gorman in his OD uniform?
Looking for full body shots. With the M65 jacket and without.

I don't have my DVD on me (I know, why?) or I'd get them myself.

Also, does he have rank on the uniform anywhere? The hat I believe,
but anywhere else?

Thanks,

Russ

Think I saw a subdued LT bar mounted parallel to the deck on Gorman's baseball style cap, and I think that bar was an Army LT bar and not a Navy/Marine bar (which are smaller). So to repeat that theme, you could go with subdue Marine LT bars on both sides of the Mandarin collar mounted parallel to the base of the collar. Don't think it was this way on screen though.

I can't take screen grabs but I remember seeing the subdued Lt bars on his shoulders where they would normally be worn on epilets. You see them in the scene in Ripley's apartment.

If that's the case -- all you need now is to check the size. Navy/Marine bars are just about 2/3 the size of Army bars. If they were Marine bars, they would seem rather small-ish on screen.

They were present on his tan Service C blouse but we are talking about his OD battle dress uniform here.

I've gone through what pics I have of his OD uniform and can't see any bars on his shoulders- however the scenes are on the dark side making it difficult to spot them if they are there.

Nope, the only rank on Gorman's OD uniform is on his hat... which incidentally is the same style as Drakes... except it doesn't have
"This End Up" written on it with a marker.

I'll post exact model and pics eventually. Unless Harry beats me with pics of his hat. :)

Wimp. I worked all day an THEN spent 3 hours cleaning and debugging the wife's new dog. :)

Not that this is a competition. You probabaly did more real work anyway. ;)

The Hat (pics will have to wait) worn by Drake and Gomez, er, I mean Gorman
is:

Quote:
Cap, Hot Weather
Olive Green 507
DLA100-87-C-0363
8415-01-073-8724
50% POLYESTER 50% COTTON
M&B HEADWEAR CO.

It has a stiffener in the front forehead/brow section that gives it a "sharp" top edge
at the hairline. There is no adjustment tab in the back like is found in a standard baseball cap.

I'm not 100% certain if mine is actual military surplus or aftermarket. Either way, it's
nuts on accurate to the film used cap style.

I have another one that I believe is actual surplus (it was HUGE... even on my fat head). I'll need to dig it out of the garage and compare.

Good to see this thread back in action again.

Considering the probability that the OD uniform was custom made for the film what are the chances of Men At Arms creating such a set of fatigues. ;)

They might just be standard Lightweights or something...

The basic design of the shirt and the trousers are either the OG-107 style
OR the OG-507. (Google it. :) )

OG-107:
They're a basic 1970s-mid 1980s vintage set of US military fatigues.
They're NOT BDU trousers however. They were made in a regular
100% cotton and a cotton "sateen" style (Later 1960s to mid 1970s/VietNam era.)

The shirt style is dead on with the vintage 3rd version OG-107, except the pocket flaps
have button holes where I presume the movie version had velcro or were sewn shut.

The vintage version also has button holes running down the front edge of the shirt, where the film version does not, and of course the film version has the mandarin collar.

OG-507

The OG-507 uniform replaced the 107 and they were made in a 50/50
poly/cotton style. They were discontinued by the Army in the early 1980s
and most other branches of service by appx. 1983. They were easy to
find in surplus stores through the mid 1990s.

It shouldn't be too hard of a job to modify a set of OG-107's or 507s
to look like the Gorman ODs.

The field jacket is an almost perfect copy of the M65, except it does appear to lack the epaulettes (I can't see them on the DVD I have) and zippered hood pocket on the neck.

There's a couple other minor differences with the collar, but otherwise it seems to have most of the common design elements.

Also forgot to mention that with the OD uniform he's wearing what appears to be a 2" or 2.5" wide
Sam Browne basket weave pattern police duty belt with silver buckle.

If you're in the USA, you can order the 1.75" "Galls Gear" version for appx. $26 shipped.
If you go with Bianchi or other brands (or wider width), expect to pay $39-$90 for the belt.

http://www.galls.com/brandcategory.html ... ndcode=315

Galls is a gear and uniform supplier for law enforcement.
