The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

We've posted some spelling, grammar and general posting tips in the miscellaneous section of the archives here, please take the time to have a look and read through everything.

We're by no means saying that there's anything wrong with anyone's posting but in some cases the reader will take a post more seriously if it's constructed and spelled properly. The tips we've posted are there only as a reference if you need them, nothing more. Also we're definitely not singling anyone out - we're all guilty of mistakes sometimes.

A few AL members are name-checked in some of the examples though so hopefully it'll be an enjoyable read! :)

Harry

As I'm sure I do a lot of these typical mistakes, I found that to be the funniest thing I"ve read today!

Thanks for a great laugh Harry :)

Jeez guys, of all the boards out there, this place is in LEAST need of the grammar police. You really saw so much bad grammar that you thought you needed to make a thread about it?

LOL Damn Harry.

Could I add something on-topic about this:

Abe says then when referring to the Alien, it should be capitalised. When referring to a grey alien with big eyes out of The X-Files or the frankly terrifying E.T., it should be not be capitalised. Furthermore, anything to do with the Alien should be capitalised: Queen, Hive, Egg ... maybe. ;)
:xeno:

Additionally, when talking about the films ALIEN and Aliens, it is often useful to put the film titles in italics or quotes to make it clear that you are talking about the films and not the Xenomorph, particularly if it's not totally clear by the context. I also have a funny habit of writing the title of the first film in all caps, but that is just to mimic the title card.

Yes...please make sure all aliens within the movie ALIENS are capitalized.

See, this is where the Queens English and the American "mish-mesh" differ
Thank God I understand most of you Brits.

Fixed that for you. :D

BTW, that's the last time I correct anyone's grammer/spelling/punctuation on here. Got into a lot of trouble on other forums over such corrections.

Dang it PV, I was letting my wife read this and she noticed that too...when I went to correct it and refresh, you had beat me to the punch    But, in America (or the South rather) we do say "mish-mesh". As in "Hey, look at dem dare Brits and Amuricans (use the "U" sound) mish meshin' around with one 'nother." This is what most of us refer to as "Redneck".

BTW, how many Smilies indicate something is VERY funny? Is there a maximum Smilie usage? :D

We must know these things. (hehe, love ya Harry)

I see where you're coming from with that. :)

An colleague of mine pronounces Las Vegas as Los Vegas, presumably because Americans elongate the 'a' in Las to Laas, so it sounds closer to Los than Las.

I have pointed out her error, but she just ignores me.

I tend to do this already (I think/hope!), I know it's probably not technically correct to do so but I like to capitalise things like 'Pulse Rifle' and 'Flame Thrower' etc.

I like that guide, although I'm already the sort of person that will go and edit my posts if I see I've made a mistake, and I wish some other forums would take note. There really are no excuses for poor English :)

Negative. There are more Anglo's than Franco's in Canada. The Queen's English will do fine for me, thank you.
Both languages are allowed in the UACM.

I think he meant "The UACM area is the only forum in which French is allowed"... Not "Only French is allowed in the UACM area - None of this 'Queen's English' nonsense for us, eh?"
;)

BTW, is it just me or does the phrase "Queen's English" take on a rather more amusing aspect here, given the subject matter of these forums?

I think you'll find its meant to represent a ring binder page pocket - perhaps to protect the damning evidence from blood stainage.
