The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

My brother works on a magazine that covers game reviews.
We were going to shoot some Aliens virals featuring Gareth and Harry in costume
for 'Aliens: Colonial Marines' for use by the magazine and Sega in a co-promotional campaign.

I also had a grand idea featuring a squad of marines and hordes of Aliens as a homage to the film.
Sega UK where keen to do this, that was the good news.

The bad news, as Jon stated, is they're putting all their eggs in to the AVP basket and, according to the honcho
at Sega UK, our beloved game has been "shelved indefinitely".
At present there are no plans to continue development of the game.
The decision will be reviewed after the release of the AVP game in 2010.

Sorry about this news, TJ mate!!

This industry is crazy sometimes. Come 2010, Aliens: CM is going to look out of date and if they choose to publish, it's either going to cost them more money to polish it up, or it's going to end up lost in the mediocre. Also, they will have to start the whole marketing sequence again, costing even more money.

We were pitching to finish off and polish a project for another studio. The publish had sunk some 2 million into it. We could have had it finished for peanuts against that cost, but at the moment it looking like the publisher may mothball the whole thing.

Surely if Aliens is the most successful film in the series (which I presume it is), then isn't it plain to see that a game based on that film will follow suit?

Aye, but Harry me old chum, the kiddies don't even know what 'Aliens' is. All they know about is the AvP franchise, and who controls mummy and daddy's purse strings? The kiddies!

It sounds really silly, but this has made me more angry than just about anything else going on this week so far; I'm so indescribably disappointed in Sega.

If you knew some of things I know, you would be even more so.

I'm not holding out a great deal of hope for the AvP project.

I don't doubt it Jon. :)

Fingers crossed AvP bombs, costs SEGA millions and forces them to shut down permanently.

Not that I'm bitter.

But then we would be without stuff like House of the Dead: Overkill and Mad World

Nah, just get rid of the stupid management that made this decision

(Kona in "not wanting any fellow developer out of a job, but would happily line up middle-management against the wall" mode)

I know what you mean. I wouldn't really wish anyone job loss and mean it.

*sigh*

I guess we're all part of a dying breed; in twenty years nobody other than us will know or care what the Alien franchise is anyway. No money to be made there, they'll say... :(

This is just plain b*llocks.

How can they "can" a game that was pretty much all wrapped up and from what I understand quite heavily anticipated?!

And let's face it, since AvP1 on the PC, the franchise has gone down the pan thanks to the first 2 movies. Why didn't the films follow one of the games or graphic novels?!

And now they claim to be developing a new game....I don't really hold a lot of hope..... :(

That right there just about sums up the whole AVP thing, for me.

Surely there must have still been some serious problems with the game or something for it to be stopped now, just weeks away from it's release? :?

Still a load of Bollocks though. :x

The Sex Pistols took it to the high court and won, so Bollocks is officially not a naughty word.

Weeks away?

I was under the impression it was many months away from release.

Don't believe release dates at Amazon and the like.

Yep agreed, I know the release dates from Amazon and Play were both for March (3rd and 27th if memory serves me right) but didn't Gearbox or Sega give it a Q1 2009 expected release date in statements not long ago? :?

Yeah I remember the release announcement being first Q, but then again I remember there being a release date for the first Q of 2008 too :( My birthday is in February and I kept putting this game on my list each year!

If you've started a project and are more than likely a few weeks from testing... why not just go ahead with it? Surely releasing it for a number of gamers to buy it would be better than just canning it?

Disappointed is not even the word

Saying a game will be released Q1 is like saying an eclipse will happen... someday. :)

Mass efffect was a Q1 release and didn't actually release until Q4 of that year. Ghostbusters was supposed to be released Q3 last year and won't be out until Late Q1-Q2 this year.

Release dates are a best guess really. And sometimes not even that good. :)

All I can say is I'm furious about this. A: CM is the game I've been most looking forward to.

I now hate Sega, and I won'y be buying anything more from them unless A: CM is released.

  :x :( :!:

My name is Kellie Parker, and I am the Community Manager at SEGA of America. As you probably know, we’ll be releasing an Aliens vs. Predator videogame, and we’re starting to plan our presence at E3. We’re interested in having people in Alien, Predator and Colonial Marine costumes at our booth for photo opportunities and to help us promote the game. If you are interested, or you know people who may be interested in helping us, please let me know.

I know you're mad....but if anyone is going to be at E3 you can help them out and make your voices heard at the same time :)

Meanwhile I'm going to ask what the deal is with the A:CM game to get it straight from the horses mouth.

If anyone is interested let me know and I'll pass on your information!
