The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I want him to yell at us to, "Get on the Ready Line!" with "Absolutely bad asses!
I REALLY want to hear him bark out, "You heard the man and you know the drill, Beaudoin come here, come here!

Oh, man, don't we all. That'd make for one hell of a video clip for the site!

Pat Henry, the guy who runs DragonCon is an odd one. His new thing now is that he only wants to book actors from movies and shows that he likes and thinks are popular. Even if every person who attends DCon e-mailed him asking for Al, it won't help. He already has in his mind that it won't make a difference. In fact, you guys already shot yourselves in the foots with your e-mails.

No convention cares (and please understand that I'm slightly exaggerating this to make a point) about what people who have ALREADY paid for a pass and were already coming to the con want. All they care about is what will get someone NEW to pay for a pass and come to the show when they originally weren't going to.

Telling Pat that there are already going to be 60 Al Matthews fans at the show doesn't help. Telling him that the Al Matthews Fan Club has 800 members worldwide, and that 150 of them live in the Atlanta area already, but don't normally attend conventions would help.

See, now you've told him that Al Matthews will make the convention MORE money. And sadly, that's what it's all about.

Sorry I wasn't able to jump in on this earlier and help you guys out, but I was out running around another convention like a maniac.

Also, Pat Henry is in the pocket of some of the Agents out there. There's one guy named John Alcanter (sp?) who is normally in charge of the Star Wars guys and folks from Heros. He must have saved Pat's life in 'Nam or something because the new DCon rule is that no Star Wars Actors (and probably other properties as well) can come to DCon unless John is their agent. In reality, obviousyl John is kicking back a lot of money to Pat to get the exclusive deal. So, get Al in touch with John, and we may be able to work something out.

If Al is still interested, and filling out the standard form on the website (which is always the first step) doesn't work, I can get Al in touch with John (or get Tony, or whomever wants to work as the go-between on this in touch with him).

Hope that helps you guys understand some more of the inner workings of conventions. A sad existence if there ever was one.

So, all them emails I sent to Dragon*Con pleading for that wonderful Spat guy to be a guest might have been actually detrimental?

Actually, telling them that my friend Abe wants to make babies with him in the Hyatt bar might have put them off more than anything ...

A few years ago e-mail like that would have worked, Gareth.

The former head honcho of DragonCon was actually arrested for kiddy porn or something along those lines (maybe it was molestation of a minor, I'm not 100% sure which, but it was bad either way).

Which is why a lot of the big exhibitors don't come to DCon anymore. DC Comics, Marvel and a lot of other big corporations backed out after it came out that the guy running the show was "naughty", and even though he's not in charge anymore, they refuse to come back.

Pat Henry was the Chairman even back then, but did not run the day to day operations. After the arrest, he jumped in and decided to take the con in the complete opposite direction. He wants the con more PG and Disneyfied, and is working hard to get the naughtiness out of the con, or at least, kept in the shadowy corners where the "straights" won't get offended by it.

More info about the seedy underground of conventions. I should charge for this info!

Lord knows Wizkids dropped last year and won't be back... which sucks for us Heroclix collectors.

And what the Frak is up with this year and 20 million Star Trek guests?

Pat's a Star Trek fan.

I'm on IM with one of the directors of the show. Let me see what she says about Al.

Hey guys, I just got a reply from Mischa Hess (sp?) on the D*Con staff asking for Mr. Matthews' contact info! Could one of the guys who's been on the phone with him please PM it to me so I can pass it along?
