The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: New APC Parade Idea

I thought of this yesterday while at a convention. There was a fork lift type thing that was made to drag along piles of tables or whatever other things they needed to set up in the convention hall. And it looked like a small version of the APC from Aliens. Of course, it was only like 2' off the ground, but it got me thinking....

Why not make a go-cart sized APC? It should be easy enough. Of course, the driver would basically be sitting on top of the front of it, but it would still be kind of cool. The Shriners make all sorts of vehicles in go-cart form.

If someone lived in Atlanta and could make one, it would be a cool thing to have driving with us in the Parade!

It kind of reminded me of the Klingon Bird of Prey car in the Parade a few years back. It was just a normal car, but with a thing on the front coming off the hood shaped like the bridge, and 2 wings on the sides like the nacelles. It didn't look perfect (obviously), but it got the point across.

Which is another idea. Take an old pick-up truck and plywood wall it and paint it up to be an APC. I see Pick-Up Truck Tanks at some of the paintball games out here. Not perfect, but you know what it is.

Could also make a go-cart or pick-up truck version of the DropShip, or Alien Queen.

And, at least this is something we can use until we get around to making a full size APC.

Thoughts?

Funny you should mention this as I was thinking last night (along with other con-related ideas) of giving up my place in the parade and driving my mini-van somewhere in the middle of our parade formation and blast the "USCM Drumroll" (perhaps inter-mixed with the "Drop" theme.

If we could slap a couple of magnetic Bug Stomper logos on each side... maybe have an armed marine sitting in the side door... might look badass..?

I have one of those magnetic logos I can bring along if needed. 8)

I had mentioned to Dom about getting some of that temporary car paint that washes off and having us all Camo the van before the parade.

I live in Atlanta, and while I couldn't build it myself, I could certainly be loads of help, and might even be able to offer up a plce to keep the vehicle until the show.

Having the drum roll looped while we march would be the best thing since electricity.

I have one of those too but I think something bigger would be required in order for the crowd to make out what it is.

Cheers

There's a while to go until it's needed, so I might be able to get it scanned and enlarged. (the Dropship decal that is  )

Won't be for a month or two though.

Will report back if/when it happens.

The Bug Stomper would have to be at least 24" wide for people to see it properly.

If there's a side sliding door, I'm thinking someone should not only be sitting there, but hanging out with either a minigun...or a particle beam phalanx!!!

Do we have a mini gun or PBP?

If not, maybe a Smartgunner?

And I still like the idea of an Alien Queen shaped go-cart being driven down the street by Abe. That would be awesome.

Of course, it would be on the wrong side of the street...

Hey wouldn't it be cool if we could get the kids trike from the LV426 colony corridor scene!

Of course, if we could track it down, then we'd need to get someone to ride it at the head of the parade.

Anyone got any clues..................!!!

My thoughts exactly... with Sean Maio and his SG riding shotgun yelling "GET SOME!", I can't think of anything else more intense.
