The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I've been reading all this stuff about Dragon*Con this year and getting nothing but dissapointed, why? Well, I can't go. :( I'm still chugging along at saving up money and it is going well, and finally with my recent production over I can get back to drawing (I'm so sorry guys!) and working two jobs to work my way up annnd school, but essentially I wont be getting my gear together untill mid summer, and my question is this:

Anyone think D*Con will be as big for us next year? *hopefull smile with big puppydog eyes* Hahaha.

OH! By the way, for those who don't have custom request for prints that I'm offering I'll be doing up a really big image that I'll be selling as well for those interested.

Peace out!

The best thing I can suggest if you don't think you'll have gear together is, COME ANYWAY. Get yourself a gray jumpsuit, slap a Weyland-Yutani patch on it, and go as a WT technician. Or carry around a carton of milk all day and go as a Synthetic. ^_^

There's plenty of ways you can throw together a poor-man's costume while you save up for armor or a pulse rifle or whatever it is you'd like to work on. If you can't afford the trip, that's totally understandable, but don't let not having a fully decked out Marine getup stop you from coming out and having a good time!

Sadly with the UK coming over this year.....I doubt next year will be as big. But I'm 99.9% sure it'll be just a fun.
Going on 3 years now and each year has been awesome :)

Gotta second that motion... although I doubt we can top 2008 until our British friends come for another round, every DCon gets more fun and more intense as time goes by.

Well, not to get nosey... but Dan, what how much do you think you will need to attend?

Currently until May 15, the cost is only $65. And that's a darn good price. A room, well some of us might still have room price, etc. Figure $100 for food. Minimum $100 for autos/stuff.

It's actually not that expensive if you start saving now.

John's right.
Again 3 years in a row all I've spent is hotel, food and gas to get there and back (eck on that this year)
Shouldn't cost 'that' much, but don't get into debt over it.
There is a HUGE motivation to be there this year, but there is always next year ;)

In all honesty, you can get a cheap pass (had you bought it at the end of DragonCon last year) for $40 or so. Now it's a bit more expensive, but still manageable. Get 6 people in a hotel room together ($100 each), eat cheap ($100 for the weekend), and buy me drinks all weekend ($200).

Ok, that last part was a goof, but you get the idea. Getting there is different depending on where you're coming from. But all together, the weekend (without travel) can be done for under $400.

Autographs, well those can be expensive, or they can be free, it all depends on who it is, and how sly you are. At a con 2 weeks ago, one of the guys hanging out with me, who had never even been to a convention before in his life, ended up with 3 or 4 FREE signed photos that he didn't even ask for. Some were because he was in the group with us the night before hanging out with the actor, and some was from just being at the table and talking to the actor nicely for a while. The actors at the con deal with a lot of strange people all day long. So if they have a nice, normal conversation with someone, they appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, some will charge their mother for an autograph, but some are really nice, and understand it's better to make a fan than to make a buck.

Also, my crew and I are buddies with a lot of the actors, if you really want an autograph from someone and can't afford it, let me know and we can see what we can do.

And every DragonCon is an amazing experience. It's by far my most anticipated and looked forward to convention all year. And this year's DragonCon looks to be the biggest gathering of Legacy members that we're likely to have in a very long while.

This year's DragonCon is going to be a con not to be missed.

Travel money is really the biggest issue I'm afraid. I drive a dependable yet costly 1984 Chevy Impala and on busy weeks in can cost me up to 100 dollars or more to fill her up. One a non busy week? 60 bucks.

I'd love to come this year too, sadly though the option really wont be presenting itself. It turns out my second job with event Staging Inc lost thier contract to the Richmond stage hands union, which is really going to make this summer difficult.

Oh well, I'll still look foward to seeing you all in 09, and drooling over 08 pictures!

(plus it will give me even more time to tweak my costume Hahaha!)

But Spat, I'll buy you drink, but only if you buy me one. :D

Dan, all your glasses of tap water at the bar are on me! As long as all my shots of Jack Daniels are on you!

And if you don't want to actually do anything related within the convention, then you can skip the ticket price.

Looking back on the one time so far that I've been, I'd skip the ticket. The only thing that really got my attention were the autographs (got 3 Aliens actors) and the merchandise area.

But of course, you can't get in those rooms without a pass/ticket.

Well to be fair...

Sometimes you can't even enter the hotels the con is at because they will turn you away if you cannot provide a pass or room key.

Really? I guess things have changed since my visit. All you needed the pass for was to get into the panels, demos, movies, merchandise and autograph rooms.

I've gone the past 3 years... don't remember being "challenged" by anyone last year, but definately happened the 2 years before.

Although it was only at the Hyatt that this happened. And it was by hotel staff. We all know how "Con Attendee Friendly" the Hyatt staff is.

Well, in the Hyatt's defense, the hotel lobby was PACKED. So to keep the looky loos away, they locked the doors as per the Fire Marshal and limited the amount of people who were allowed in.

I've seen that kind of thing happen at other conventions and at other hotels, it's not a DragonCon, or Hyatt specific event.

To avoid that issue, camp out at the Hyatt bar and never leave except to attend Hyatt hotel room parties! That's how I do it!
