The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I use the standard acrylic silver from Walmart.

It covers really well and its excellent for brush handle scraping along the edges.

Does anyone remember what paint FNG recommended for using? Since he painted mine I wanted to match it. I remember he provided paint samples to others so someone should know.

Lastly, what kind of lacquer would you seal it with? I'm afraid it would discolor the armor where I spray it.

I re read one of FNG's e - mails where we talked about painting but he never talked about the brands.
On my armor I sealed it with a few coats of Testers 1960 flat lacquer. :xeno:

As far as I remember Chris took samples of the Humbrol paints to Lowes and had them colour matched.

He had a quart or so of each colour for armour painting.

When it comes to drybrushing- I stay away from silver as it tends to look too bright. I use steel colour paint instead. Besides PRs and armour are supposed to be made of steel, not silver right?

I use Testors Steel 1180:

Hope this helps.

Also, (and this might be too late if you've already started painting), a neat trick is to paint the armor silver first. Then, as it gets real-world wear from convention use, you get spots where the upper layers of paint wear down t the "metal".

I have also used that method of painting the silver first on models. After painting the top coats I sand down to the silver or steel ( use fine sand paper ) you do not want to go past the silver. This will show some wear now ( don't over do it ).
I also used a motor tool with a rough rock, to dig in a few holes to show acid burns. Do not over do this unless you have the scars to prove it.

Make sure you spray a sealer over the silver before you paint and weather with sandpaper. (forgot to do that on my armor... )

a buddy of mine used Alclad II. You can see what it looks like here
Go down to Painting Commander Gree and you can see it on his armor. It has a high polished shine to the "metal", but looks great, much better in person than the pictures

Those silver paint pens also do a pretty good job. I think Matsuo has used them a time or two.
