The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The image needs to end in .jpg to show up in image tags.

The easiest way I found is (in Firefox) right-click, select View Image, copy the url, paste the url inside image tags, removing anything after .jpg such as ?v=0 and it'll work. :)

I have been posting and following the RPF thread. I think the tube is the hold up but I am not paying an outrageous price for one. I hope that the progress will move forward. I think 101Radioman hit the nail on the head with the links. I do not plan on filling the whole tube with water. I want to use 2 thin tubes so I do not need an expensive 1/4 in cast section with sealed bottom. I am even looking at hunting decoy's that use a motor to twitch looking like damage prey. This would make the hugger move.

Thanks!

Greg

Nice articles, thanks for posting. I have the Frank Cerney tutorial article already but I didn't post it as he asked me not to since he was thinking of making a kit at some point but I'm not sure if he ever did or not. I felt it best not to post them though as I have not been told it was OK to since. It's from a magazine though I believe, yeah?, so I'm sure it's fine to.

Cheers

Darren

Yep, that's what I wanted mine to look like. My hugger is the smaller Kenner version.
After looking at how expensive tubes were, I went to home stores and looked for cylindrical vases. Cheaper and enclosed on the bottom so no worries about leaks.
I used PVC for the top and bottom.

It's actually quite pleaseant. :)

I like to turn on the stasis tube light and turn off the room lights and just bathe in it's amber glow.

Now, if it were to actually jerk or make a sudden movement, I'd be making a sudden movement of my own.

Which one? You would need to find the face hugger, but I could help you source the materials.

I have the Kenner's one. And I would really prefer it in stasis than running around in my flat!

I would think that to be too viscous.

I have thought about "encapsulating" the thing in the clear stuff they use for fake water in plant/flower displays. Is that glycerin?

I am trying to source the materials for a couple of people, let me know if you need a place to keep your "kenner" size hugger.

For the twitching on the face hugger I thought about using the workings of one of those plastic flowers, the ones that move when you talk. You could move the mic to the top of the stasis tube and when someone makes a noise the thing would start. After a few minutes it would stop off again.

Here are the pieces.
Glass vase $25
5in Pvc Cap and join $10
Metal rod Acorn nuts $5
Rings - cut from press board - would like metal ones
Power Supply- $30 Radio shack

Image

I need to re-do the top piece now that i have the specs, i am also going to light it from the bottom with LED's instead of the bulb in the top.
I have access to two more vases, but i think one is spoken for. I could get someone this far pretty easily. The time intensive part is grinding out the inside of the pvc to fit the vase. PM me.
