Just wondering if any of our smartgunner brethren would be willing to sell me a copy of the blueprints for their rigs to try to recoup some of their own initial outlay?

I have a machinist willing to accept the commission, which means that there may well be a UK run of steadicam rigs on the horizon...

I know Andy Gardner built his using the "CodyCam" plans (www.codydeegan.com) with some minor modifications; I followed his example for my arm.

If you want to buy plans for the genuine article, though, the man you need to talk to is Jesse DeGraff.

Well, What kind of info will you need? I have some M42 bluebrints. and some other info.
And I'll have about a 1/2 dozen (All Steel) muzzle ends done in awhile. If you are interested in building a all metal one, they will go for around $75-$85 each. Depending on how many gunner's would want them.
I'm about 85% done with my all metal SG, just some small details are left.

Back on topic, I would also love to get my hands on some good plans for the steadicam rig, although I do plan on picking up the CodyCam plans as well.

To re-iterate, anyone who is interested in GENUINE steadicam replica type shtuff, Jesse's your guy. Work, life, and other projects have been taking up all his time lately, but he's the one with a 100% accurate Steadicam rebuild - CAD plans for the arm, and all.

He's mentioned before that he plans to eventually start producing kits, but there's no ETA on when he'll have time to finish that project. Who knows - Rev, perhaps he might be interested in working with you on that? Worth asking.

I got a quote for the Cody MK2 arm a couple years ago now and it was going to cost me $1200 minimum!

Of course, I was going for a function iso-elastic arm and NOT just a prop replica.

Before everyone goes bombarding Jesse asking for copies of his plans, please let me emphasize out an important point:

Jesse has put an incredible amount of work into his Steadicam rig. He was lucky enough to find a "beater" Mark 3-A vest for a (relatively) low price, and he literally reverse engineered it piece by piece to make his current vest. The arm was even more impressive - most of it was scratch fabricated on a CNC machine using CAD plans he and another board member painstakingly replicated.

The point of all that is... he deserves to make some coin from all that work ^_^ He's helped me a lot through my process of building my setup (which still isn't 100% finished yet), but even if I end up with a perfectly good "CodyCam" vest, I still intend to buy one of his kits if they ever go into production.

So, in short, please respect the effort Jesse has put into all of this, and don't be offended if he takes a long time to respond. He's a busy, busy guy.

I made my CodyCam Mk1 with everyday aluminum stock. Use narrow bar-stock for the arm bones instead of the square-channel the plans call for, and it'll bring the width of the arm down to about the same width of the actual Steadicam arm. Credit goes to Andy Gardner for that nifty little trick. After that, you can make some faux spring covers for the top and bottom of each arm section out of simple sheet aluminum, and you end up with a finished arm that looks passably like the original Steadicam for a fraction of the cost.

I didn't keep close track, but I estimate total cost for the Mk1 CodyCam arm to be between $100 and $300, depending on how much machining you have to job out. I'm expecting a similar ball-park for the Mk1 CodyCam vest.

I have absolutely no idea right now how much costs will be or what materials will be.
Once Warren's seen plans ( Any plans! ) I'll be able to give more info.

Like I said, I already mailed Jesse to ask how much he'd want for his plans, if he's willing to sell - The cost of the plans will be incorporated into the cost of any run of parts i end up being able to organise.

The run will currently just be for the steadicam metal parts, although the guy I'm dealing with does make WWII custom airsoft guns so if anyone does want an MG42 to go with the arm I'm sure it can be arranged.
I also reckon copying at set of bike brackets should be fairly easy as well.

But let's see what Jesse says first, yeah?
And if the answer's "no" then the hunt resumes for usable plans...
