Question for the Marines out there. I am an E-5/SSgt in the AF. What is the E-5 rank called in the USMC?

Hey Kronk..and welcome..I saw your intro thread but didnt get a chance to reply.

The USCM is based roughly around Army ranks...so Im not sure how your rank will "translate" into a USCM rank...

With Gorman being the highest rank in the movie, I think we pretty much base our own personal ranks as lower than he was..just so we can be "grunts". But its really your own choice...

Also, be sure to PM Dom (sharpuscm) to get your serial number...its a painless process

E-5 would be Sergeant (Sgt).

E-5 in the USMC is called the same thing that its called in the US Army, Sergent (SGT). It's you Zoomies who screwed everything up by renaming your ranks to one level higher than everyone else (its true, go look it up).

Now as to its equivalent... everyone knows an E-5 in the AF is worth a PFC (E-2) in the Corps.

E5 is listed as a Sergeant in in the Maraine Corps- but around here you can pick any rank you please.

One thing Chris used to say is that there are far too many NCOs and not enough privates- he also didn't enjoy being in charge which is why he said he liked being a private for life.

But I'm far too outnumbered to get into a pissing match here, so that's the last I'll say on that subject.

E-5 is a Sergeant (SGT) rank in the U.S. Army, just above Specialist & Corporal and below Staff Sergeant. This would be your USCM rank.

Of course, everything is relative... In the Canadian Army, I am a corporal (US equivalent is E-4) and have adopted corporal as my USCM rank... although CDN corporal is the 3rd rank up (REC, PTE, CPL)... so this techincally qualifies me as an E-3 Lance Corporal.

But who cares, right? I have a guy who recently applied for a service number... doesn't even have a costume and wants to be a colonel. So the choice is yours.

If you absolutely want to be an E-5, sergeant is your rank.
If you want to be a staff sergeant, you'll have to fight Kevin for the title.

I used to be a Zoomie Cadet. Made it up to Master Warrant Officer.


Dom- that's funny about the guy who wants to be a Colonel- I joke all the time about promoting myself to that rank and showing up at D-Con with a chrome M1 helmet.

Ahh, the good ol' USAF. I'm a bit of an AF brat, myself. My first few years of life were spent moving around as my father was transferred. Illinois, Maine, Colorado, and then back to Maine when he was transferred to Ubon in '71, where he became a 46170 with the 408th MMS. He'd been a 34270 prior to that.

I came close to enlisting back in '91 (I actually brought the papers home to review before signing), but opted to finish college first, since I was already there. Ultimately my life went in a different direction and I never enlisted.

Where in Texas are you? What do you do?




When I became a member of the Charter I remember going back and forth with Tony about what my rank should be. He didn't feel a Private was appropriate because of my site, but I didn't feel a high ranking officer was right either. So I settled on CWO since a Warrant Officer's primary role is a technical expert, offering aid, guidance, and expertise to commanders and organizations in a given field. It may have been a little unorthidox, but I felt it worked. ...So, yeah, go with whatever rank you feel is appropriate.

The funny part about that is that the AF doesn't have WOs in active duty.

Scenic Wichita Falls. About 9 miles from Oklahoma. I was an Avionics technician for 7 years, then came here as a tech school instructor for 2, and now I am the Operations Support Manager for the new F-22 Maintenance Training Facility.

The twist in the story is that SSgt. Burton is Canadian, and we all know they do things a little different up there.

Yeah I certainly hope you didn't think I was bullshitting you or something- I was in Canada's Air Cadets from 1983 to 1989 and an additional year as an instructor (some of the best times of my teenage life were in there).

Oh and I know what the rank Dom posted is- but I have an advantage over our US cousins (so does Mike) so I'll keep quiet.

Gooood. Although the rank may seem minimal in the infinite sea of American Sergeant ranks, the Master Corporal serves as drill instructors in almost all levels, so it's a real macho rank.

Keeping in mind that I have Marine uniforms for Aliens, Space: Above and Beyond, the equivilent for Starship Troopers...
