The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

If the majority steers away from the red forage cap in favour of white, I would recommend CF Navy white. It has a convenient anchor on the chin strap buttons (keeping with marine traditions). At least like this it will not be mistaken for a marine cover by actual marines.

I would say that either a red forage or a red beret would be a suitable alternative for who prefer whatever head-dress. The dress blues of my regiment can be worn either with the red forage cap or our black berets, so I don't see why one or the other wouldn't be acceptable for our project.

You know a beret works with me...

For people complaining about the red cover, consider that Kev photoshopped that and so it's not exact by any means.

Check Dom's pic of the red forage cap and it looks much more subdued to my eye.

I'm perfectly fine with berets, btw. We haven't seen a mock-up of this yet. Berets aren't expensive... perhaps just grab a few and post pics of black/red/white berets (you may recall pages and pages back I found a source for white berets).

A red beret, though, is interesting to me.

Cooter- I'm not the one who suggested the red cap, just did a photoshop that was requested. And the blue pants were changed on purpose so as not to have any misrepresentation issues with actual US Marines. We have been walking a fine line between having it be a nod toward the Marines (a futuristic progression), while at the same time not be an exact Dress Blues impression.

Dom- To be honest, I don't like the red cap. I was really trying not to come right out and say it the first time. :(

If everyone truly wants to know what it would look like with my current set-up please say so. I'll gladly give Dom my hat size so we can get a pic with it on.

Dom the wings are high on my chest on purpose to make room- I plan on having my ribbons reproduced by D-Con or sooner. Just have to find that link for the place that makes ribbons.

I'm still going to grab a CF Navy hat just to see how it looks.

If some members would like to wear a beret instead of a cap- I would not be opposed to having both.

It does seem to me that the easiest way to please the most people will be to approve a couple of different forms of dress.
For example options for berets or caps.

Equally I seem to remember that there were some who were very keen to go with white belts instead of the black Sam Browne.
I can't speak for the USMC but I can speak for the RAF where white belts are permitted for wear by personnel on special or ceremonial duties.
We have different "sub-modes" of uniform that are permitted as optional choice in certain circumstances.

If we are really stuck on certain issues perhaphs A and B variants of the dress uniform will solve the problems?

How about the white forage cap or scarlet beret alternative? I honestly think a scarlet beret would look freaking awesome.

Ok here's the deal-

After a conversation with Dom we have narrowed it down to an "A" and "B" style uniform. "A" being a white Canadian Forces Naval cap and the alternate "B" a red beret.

I just happen to own a red beret myself (from my Guardian Angel days  ) so I'll take a couple of pics with it when I get the chance- prolly Friday as it is my day off.

No offense, but having 2 different covers makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Sooo, the decision to not even look at a Black beret and go with only a Red beret was why?

None taken. Over here in the frozen tundra of Canada, some regiments have a perfectly acceptable alternative for dress uniforms... forage cap or beret. I see adopting this SOP for our dress blues to be a good idea, like this we can make as many people happy as possible.

I don't think there's been a final word pal... just for kicks, I'll send Kevin a black beret too. Sent you one as well I recall?

Yes my friend, you did send me a black beret...one that is ever so lonely...lonely for a class A outfit to wear it with...! 8)

-Rex

I'm not hung up on the black beret, just that it appears a decision was made on the red beret without even seeing how both looked.

Probably either one will look darn good with the uniform! I'm just trying to think what emblem did we decide to put on it, waaay back when? (without going back and looking through all the posts...)

If I remember, it was either the Screaming Eagle or the Delta. But, wait, I think it was an all metal, commissioned Screaming Eagle on the forage cap?

Man, it looks like this project will actually be a go!

Cool. :D

No need to Dom; I've got a black one too (along with a dark green, maroon, and UN blue one too).

I'll take pics with both red and black.

Derek- I know what you are saying. Basically if you have a different cover- the entire uniform should be different (such as Dress Blues versus a service uniform).

Personally I feel that berets are good for service uniforms (we call it workdress don't we Dom?) or battledress (with a subduded insignia). A full Parade uniform such as Dress Blues just begs a combination cap (and will be what I'll be wearing).

But as Dom said this would make some people happy (well one for sure  Kidding Rex ya know I love ya!) and so that the project doesn't stall again I'm open to some malleability with it.

Using challenge coins was also mentioned.

Treadwell's correct; in fact I posted mock-ups of that several months ago as well. I think it looked pretty sharp. We never really got around to discussing how to affix a pin or stud to the back of the coin though.

Probably could just epoxy a pin back to it. Probably need a couple of them, due to the weight of the coin. Just to make sure it stays on. Get 'em at Michael's.

Come to think of it... that might not make such a bad cap badge. It's an available item and I still have a stack of them left.

Anyone need a challenge coin?
